God I hope it's only 4 years if they're paying him that much.

IF we are really giving Jrue $25M+ AND $8M to Justin, this it is going to be tough to improve. We are going to be up against the tax next season. Thus if we use our first to get someone this year, it has to be a good contract with at least 2 years on it. Those numbers make everything extremely difficult.

Well that's good at least, will help with fan support.

In general though the current NBA mostly bums me out. Outside of maybe 4 teams most fans can't see a path for their team to get to a championship. Much less a small market team.

Keeping Jrue gets us a top five seed minimum.

A lot of west playoff teams got worse the past few weeks

Yeah. It's going to have to be a continual cycle of finding Diallos and Crawfords. Once they get good enough for a decent contract you won't be able to afford to keep them.

That's in year 1. In year 4 of a $106 million deal he's making $29.4

Hopefully Dell won't give him 8% raises. 5% raises starting just under AD would put him at 4 yrs $101M. Dell will stupidly add a trade kicker to it though. Hopefully he avoids a no trade clause.

I am by no means a huge fan of Holiday. However, retaining Jrue and signing Justin gives us our best chance at doing the two things we have to do next season...win and keep Cousins here.

Point Boogie and the 4/5 PnR will likely lessen Holiday's role as the traditional point guard on this team. That's important because Jrue actually provides exactly what we need on the perimeter. Defense and the ability to knock down shots. Justin does as well to a lesser extent.

The contract will be more than we'd ideally like to swallow, BUT it really doesn't mean much in the grand scheme of things. Davis/Cousins/Hill/Holidays/Asik/Ajinca would have ran us up against the cap annually anyway for the next few years, regardless of whether we overpay Jrue 3-5mil annually. We will be in the place where we have to make trades or use exceptions to acquire new pieces.

I was skeptical, but Gentry's comments about the offense and using the bigs in a more creative way, though not necessarily the Denver way, make this much more interesting. Jrue could be a very effective weapon if used correctly.

Jrue, Moore, Hill, AD, Cousins should be solid enough to get you into the playoffs

With the Clippers getting much worse, Hayward looking like he is leaving Utah, Aldridge getting pissy in San Antonio...it could be really nice for us especially if Westbrook isn't so pissed off this year.

Pretty much, yeah.

We will essentially be done in FA with the Jrue/Justin pairing, beyond scrapheap, minimum guys.

Can't wait until we sign Boogie's cousin Dookie to the BAE next year.

I'm fine with overpaying Jrue. As long as he's healthy, he's a component you want to keep. He just can't be the primary ball handler all game.

The issues have always been length+cost for the contracts Dell has given...most of the time its outbidding himself but this time it seems like he has to do it

The question is, how can we improve AFTER?

Well since we are presumably using the MLE on Justin Holiday and our draft pick...

We really can't do a whole lot beyond a trade and minimum contracts.

This team is about to be seriously fricked for the next decade.

Why do people assume we have no choice but to "win" this year to keep boogie? I'm sure he and his agent understand that making the playoffs as a 7-8 seed isn't success.

These players and agents arent dumb. They understand felxibility is more valuable than 5 more years of mediocrity. So, no, I don't buy the argument that making the playoffs keeps boogie. In fact, I think making the playoffs this way could cause him to leave.

Too bad they don't have their own DLeague team yet. If they did they could have the team's focus be getting Frank Jackson ready for the 2nd half of the season. I'm sure they'll send him to the DLeague, but he won't be practicing the same role and schemes.

This hyperbole is ridiculous. No matter how you feel about the possibility of Jrue resigning, we still have a top 10 NBA player under contract for 4 more seasons. If the worst happens and we have to hit the reset button, Davis will return a ton of assets.

I have a feeling we're way overpaying and once again bidding against air.

Reckless.
