yeah. they are going to try to make a playoff push. they aren't handing the keys to a 19 yo in what could be Dirk's final season.
maybe it's not Holiday, but signing a vet who can create and cover for Smith on defense is a smart move for them

I'm operating under the assumption that Jrue won't be back. To much smoke.

I thought trading for Matthews only made sense if we were dumping Asik?
He's roughly the same cost as Holiday's cap hold so the question is can you do better on the open market with Jrue's cap space than Matthews.

I'd be concerned about Matthews opting into his player option in 18-19.

Yeah, he's probably become an MLE or less level player. Do you turn down 1/$18 to take 4/$36 or wait a year to get 4/$36?

Givony got that from Jrue's agent BTW.
He's trying to keep his market relevant for now as suitors fall by the waste side.

who is holidays agent?
Justin have the same guy?
is there any real push to package the two or is that just easy speculation?

I think it will take that for Jrue to re-sign. I think you get both, giving Justin the MLE and then you have the BAE, TPE, and your future 1st if you want to find a big man or upgrade more on the wing.

Thought it was weird coming from Givony. Offered it without comment. I really hope Jrue's agent doesn't shite all over our team to get his client to another team a la EG.

#Mavs source confirms stated FA plan: No chase for big-fish PG now (like Jrue) w Smith Jr here (unless $ drops crazily + one falls in lap)

even if the Mavs get rid of all their non major, non guaranteed players. That includes Yogi, Devin Harris, Finney Smith, etc. that stilll only gets them to about $22 million below the cap NOT counting Dirk. Dirk made $25 million last year. Let's say the Mavs get slimy, and Dirk agrees to a modest $10 million, that still only leaves $12 million or so.
I don't see any team willing to take on Mathews contract without sending something back. And even then, maybe they get a contract Jrue would like, but that doesn't count Justin. And after that they will have to match Noel and end up well over the cap and approaching luxury tax levels.
I just don't see it.

not about holiday, but applicable
holiday's contract here will be a mistake, one that anyone can see coming.
dont do it dell

Those inexplicable L.A. contracts remind: Mistakes always come back to bite you. Transactions flow along a continuum. They are not independent from one another. Without Brandon Knight on the books through 2020, Phoenix might have swallowed Joakim Noah's deal as the price for relieving the Kazoos of their self-inflicted Kristaps Porzingis problem.

Putting Holiday in the same categories of Brandon Knight, Omer Asik, Noah, Mosgov etc is a major major mistake in judgement. Jrue Holiday might not technically be worth $30 million, same as some other max players. But $20-$25 million is really just the going rate for an unrestricted free agent Pg that is in the top half of the league.
I think we as fans have gotten blinded by the situation. Makes no sense to compare a starting Pg to guys who shouldn't be in the league.
I think we all agree $30 million is too pricey. But there's a major jump from that, and those almost excited to see a very very good player leave at all costs. A guy who has been better than the Rubios and Bledsoe's everyone dreams about.

its not the per year money, its the years
if the pels sign holiday to a 4 or 5 year deal (which is what has been reported to be on the table), he immediately becomes untradeable without an asset, and his deal will run past davis'
not tenable
