Looks like every team 3-5+ is supposedly in the running for Russell. I wouldn't put too much stock into these rumors.

MM has heard that if they can't turn 3 into a star trade they are trying to cash in some assets and get 2 top 8 picks in this draft. Basically 1 of Bender/Brown/Chriss and 1 of Dunn/Murray/Hield.

Interesting.

So this is where Bradley/16/23 for 6 comes into play? Or is there something else the Pels would toss in?

If Dunn is gone, I'm not as sold on Hield/Murray as many other Pels fans seem to be. I'd be tempted if it's one of them at 6 and 16 still has some interesting guys on the board.

Right, only MM speculated a bit more, 31 and a few rotation players too. I agree with you, I like Dunn, but if he's off the board it'd be hard to turn down relatively cheap rotation players (to this year's FA prices) and multiple 1sts that can net future starters.

To be clear, I just said I heard the Celts were trying to get another top 8 pick and I said what I would demand in return. Never said anything about what they were actually offering

Who would you rather have; A) Okafor, B) Russell, C) Dunn, Hield or Murray?

This is just a silly rumor, but this would be an awesome deal for the Pels. Russell is a notch above what we'll get at pick 6 and a much more known commodity after a year in the NBA.

He's one of the obvious targets on a 3 way with Philly that would send Okafor to the Lakers. I'd say if this were from an actual source it's more us trying to get Boston to increase their trade offer for 6 than us thinking Russel is better than one of the guards we could draft. Isn't Russell more of a combo guard than PG? His assist number have never been very strong. I would think if they were going PG they'd want Dunn more, and if they were going scoring guard Hield/Murray would be better.

Russell is still more of a p.g. than combo. He has the ability to run an NBA offense, he was unfortunately a member of the Lakers. He had to deal with an archaic Byron Scott offense, and a group of ball dominant guards in Kobe, Lou Will, and Clarkson.

He was good as far as rookies go. He was playing on a shite team, with shite offense but he did show some promise in his shooting. 35% from 3 on 4.6 attempts per game is good for a rookie. He's also a very good passer and has great size for a 1 or 2 (he's actually slightly longer than Hield).

I don't know what to think of David Fisher's opinion on D'Angelo Russell because judging by his twitter feed he's a pretty big Ohio State fan and obviously biased. But he thinks Russell is significantly better than Dunn/Hield/Murray.

quote:

He has superior physical tools, a tight handle, and generational court vision...Despite being the purest point guard in the group Russell is also the largest.

...Simply put, D'Angelo Russell provides a far higher chance of becoming a star with a lower chance of failing to turn into a rotation player than any player New Orleans could select with sixth pick. Unlike the typical "trade for a young veteran" plan out of the Pelicans front office Russell is on his rookie scale contract for another three years. In fact despite already playing a season in the NBA Russell is two years younger than Kris Dunn or Buddy Hield.

The issue with Russell IMO, is that he doesn't fit with Jrue. I think Dunn is an ideal compliment to Jrue, Murray can be very good, and Hield is okay if the Pels use AD as more of a playmaking forward

Basically, you can't have a ball dominant guy with Jrue, and ideally you have a guy who can defend multiple backcourt positions. Russell is a pure, pure point and if you are building around him and AD, then Jrue has to go.

So, fit wise, I like Murray and Dunn better for the Pels than Russell, because of the fit with Jrue. But in a vacuum, he might be a slightly better prospect

Having two guards with tight handles that can shoot the 3 don't fit? That's an ideal backcourt in today's NBA.

Let's not forget Jrue could be gone after next year too.

That's kind of a stretch. He played off the ball some next to Shannon Scott at osu and he has said in the past he modeled his game after guys like Manu and Joe Johnson.

Either way, he doesn't warrant 3 "pures".

Also why wouldn't the better offensive player (Russell) fit next to Jrue?

Don't you always say you never draft for today's roster you get the best talent?

It's not a draft pick but he's one year in. There isn't much difference.
