The issue with Russell IMO, is that he doesn't fit with Jrue.
What's Jrue's trade value then? I guess our 2017 pick won't have as much value as this year's pick did after we started the season so bad, but didn't Zach Lowe say we could have gotten Middleton for Jrue and a 1st? Trade 6 for Russell and trade Jrue and next year's 1st for Middleton? Even if you can't get that, it does suggest Jrue has some value. Maybe you can trade Jrue to the Jazz for #12 and Trey Burke? I'm not sure who I take at 12, Sabonis? I'd rather flip the Jazz assets to Denver and have 15 and 19. Take a big and Prince.

Dunn is an ideal compliment to Jrue

you can't have a ball dominant guy with Jrue
Coming out of college, Russell is a better version of Murrary, statistically speaking, with acknowledged advantages in passing/vision.
This year, Russell shot 37% on 3 Catch and Shoot 3PA/G after the all-star break. He is more point than combo, but he is also comfortable off ball.
Also, seems like the Pels want Holiday to be more of a secondary ball handler. Dunn/Russell make sense there, but not sure how Murrary does since he projects as a secondary ball handler.
To me, the issue is more that Holiday is ball dominant, but he's not particularly great at it. Letting him run the 2s makes sense in that respect, but they need his defense to start the game.

I think Jrue had more value with 1.5 years on his contract than 1. But even if you could get something decent for him, would it be a better combo than say Jrue and Murray or Jrue and Hield. I mean, let's say you could get Zach Lavine
Jrue/Hield (or Murray) or Russell/Lavine
Knowing how well AD plays with Jrue, I would take the Jrue combo 10 times out of 10. But I think he is past his injury issues. I understand that some might not be as optimistic

I've been as big a defender of keeping Jrue as any, and I too think his injury problems are in the past. But most on this board and even the team and coaches according to your inside info, don't believe that Jrue is the lead guard this team needs. We think he can be a useful guard, just not the main lead. If Jrue isn't that lead guard, how is pairing him up with a shooter/scorer in Hield better than pairing any competent SG with a big PG that can score and has "generational" vision? I don't know much about Russell, but what others have brought to this thread suggests he could be the type of PG that can run Gentry's offense well.

To be clear, they don't believe he is a guard in the CP3/Steve Nash kind of mold, but they do think he can be a Chauncey Billups kind of PG - a guy who sets up the offense more times than not, but has help from playmaking forwards or wings like Billups had with Prince and Rasheed
If Russell reaches his ceiling, he is in the Nash mold, where he has the ball a ton. And in that case, you want a more traditional 2 next to him.
But this is just on the court stuff. Think about the TYPE of players this organization has gone after, and avoided, the past 5 years. You think they want a guy who fights a fan in the street (Okafor) or a guy who commits a cardinal sin (Russell) over the highest of high character guys in Hield or Dunn?
I think that might be the bigger issue

Wild fantasy proposal:
6 for Russell
10 + spare parts (Vaughn or Inglis or Obryant for the locals + MCW) for Jrue
Draft Baldwin at 10. Do something similar to the Evans trade Fisher proposed, draft wing/big there.
Team is definitely worse for the upcoming season, but you have an ace passer (and potential #2 guy) next to Davis. And, you've remade your backcourt with multi-talented, young, and cheap guards under contract for a long time.

That would be too awesome for Dell to pull off.
