The Pelicans make a trade today. I don't know why, I just have a feeling. Tyreke Evans and our first round pick next year are our 2 biggest assets. I'm worried about our offense if Evans gets traded. Our 3 FA signings were mostly defense-related signings IMO, which is a really good sign. Then we drafted Hield for his offense.

Losing EG, Anderson, and possibly tyreke takes away a lot of offensive firepower from this team. If we trade Tyreke, we need to aquire some more offense. It's ok if it's another defensive or role- player move, as long as the piece we are getting can put the ball in the hole.

I think the defensive minded guys we have can put the ball in the hole, they just need to be in the right system and have guys like AD and Jrue make life easier for them.
Our offense should be about a lot of ball and player movement, penetration and kick outs, and creating wide open 3's or open lanes to the goal.

One thing about the guys we've picked up, they are all long armed guys with athleticism, so finishing at the rim if the lane is open should not be a problem.

With the crazy contracts we're seeing handed out I think I'd roll with what we have and cost control Jrue like Fisher has brought up in the past. He just mentioned it again

Pelicans, if they trade away Tyreke Evans, can raise Holiday's contract up to $20.25M this year. Money is even over four years.

You're taking on some injury risk, which is not insignificant with this organization's track record, but you enter 2017 with Jrue at 3/$60. What if you can sign CP3? There may be debate on whether you'd want to or not, but with CP3 and Buddy, Jrue becomes expendable. Assuming his foot holds up, making "only" $20 per year he becomes a trade asset. Surely that adds more long term value to the roster than anyone else we can sign/absorb. Taj Gibson is probably the only trade/FA idea I've seen that might work out better.

Yeah I like Gibson, just can't see us dumping Asik somewhere. Of course we wouldn't have too if we traded Evans for Gibson, but having Asik and Ajinca making what 15-16 mill combined to mainly watch from the sidelines would suck.

I would love CP3 and would do anything to get him, even at his age, but I just can't see it happening. I see him taking a lot less money and signing with a Cleveland, Chicago, or San Antonio.

When healthy, jrue is huge for this team. He can put up 20 and 7 easily IMO. I want jrue here for a while if possible, if he can stay heathy.

no debate.
I would love to have CP3 back. Absolutely love it.
I hope Griffen leaves and he sees the writing on the wall, AD and Buddy play great and we look like an up and comer and we convince him to come back here.
Maybe he convinces one of his all-star buddies to come play too.

Extending Holiday at $20M a year right now is awfully risky to me. You have to truly believe, not just hope, that his leg is fine. That he's not another Gordon w/ non recurring injuries now a feature.

If you do honestly believe that, then $20M per year is a steal over having to pay him something close to his max ($29M) to keep him next summer.

We should send him to San Antonio to get checked out by their doctors and then ask Pop if he would do it.

I couldn't be ballsy enough to make that move. I would want to see Jrue put together a healthy season before shelling out that contract.

ETA: the risk is too great. No one blames you if you wait to see if he has a healthy season, then give him a large contract next off season. You look like a total idiot if you give him a max extension this off season and he's injured again next season.

I wasn't going to say Melo b/c i'm sure most would hate it, but i think Melo is getting older and would understand if he was in a situation where he's on a legit championship type team with CP3 and AD, he's not going to be the guy taking dumb shots all the time like he is now with the shitty knicks. And i think if anyone can make him be a better player and actual tell him something and he listen, it's CP3.

I wouldnt' doubt it if the Knicks look to move Melo next summer, with 1 year left on his deal at $24M. Hope to extend Jrue now, he plays well, send him next summer with Asik and a 1st, this is all after CP3 signs with us.

so we're thinking

Jrue has no interest in this and the Pels don't know where the cap is going. He will finish out his last year and hit FA. It's a smart theoretical scenario that TBW keeps bringing up, but in reality, it's not gonna happen

if we trade away another first round pick i'll be very very frustrated, and i'll write a letter to somebody expressing my frustration. but we can definitely trade reke and a second rounder.

In extending Jrue to tget to that $20M figure, is it a renegotiation of his current contract (upwards 10%) then an extension of 107.5% of that salary with 7.5% raises and a 15% bonus?

Never gotten into nitty gritty of vet extensions. ANyone know specifically how we get to that $20M figure?

Every time i see a post like this i have to laugh to myself.

Somewhere people are shaking their head at the notion that a Pelicans fan thinks they are the next super team.
