I would never willingly listen to them in my car or anything but I saw them at hangout 2012 and they blew me away. Great live

I became a fan at a time when I was young and just starting to play music. Obviously their drummer is ridiculous and had a huge impact on me. I had the opportunity to see them live twice and it was awesome. They've got several songs that I will never tire of listening to. On the other hand they do have some songs that I flat out do not like and don't enjoy listening to. Now, years later, I still enjoy their music and will listen to them from time to time, and purchase a new studio album when they release them. I understand how people can be so passionate about them, and also how people can be so vocal in the opposite direction as well. All in all, I would say one of my favorite bands of all time, not Top 3 or anything, but still pretty high up there. Eta: the addition of Jeff Coffin on horns has been great, as I have been a huge fan of his music for a long time.
This pretty much sums it up for me, minus the learning to play music part.
I'm not as big on them as I used to be but I do still enjoy them.

This pretty much sums up my thoughts. I was a huge fan from the mid-90's to the early aughts. I've been to a lot of their shows...probably in excess of 20. I'm not so much of a fan anymore for no real reason that I can put my finger on. Maybe just burned out on them or my tastes evolved in another direction. Still have a lot of respect for them though.

Used to really like them. Saw them in bars back in the early 90's a few times, and always had a blast. Saw them a handful or some more times through the 90's, and gradually just lost interest in them. Saw them right around the time Before These Crowded Streets came out, and was bored to tears and swore off of them. The band seemed uninterested and just going through the motions. Wife begged to go see them last summer, so we went, and I had a blast. They looked like they were having fun on stage again, and it showed the product they put out. The first acoustic set got old quick, but the second set was damn good. Won't cry if I never see them again though, and I rarely listen to them.
All that said, some of the fans at their shows fit the stereotypes they've gotten.

Used to love DMB but damned if my group of friends in high school and college didn't run it into the ground. I tried to listen to them again a few years ago and just couldn't do it.

Yeah there was a 2-3 year span there in the mid-90's at Bama when every party you went to was blasting DMB.

For that alone I hope they are all assraped by AIDS-test monkeys

And I can say the same thing about U2.
U2 is one of the top five rock era bands of all time. If you grew up with them when they were at the height of their power, you would know that to be true. DMB couldn't carry U2's jock although I don't hate them. The singer's voice grates on me. But no doubt they are talented.

One of my favorite bands. Have seen them 14 times. Will see them 15-16-17 at the gorge at the end of the summer.
Fantastic band live, studio music and radio tracks leave a lot to be desired.

Top 5???
1. Led Zepplin
2. The Beatles
3. The Who
4. Rolling Stones
5. Dead, Pearl Jam, The Band
Five is just high.
Not saying they aren't high up there, but 5 high?

Busted Stuff is a criminally under appreciated album
I agree
I think its similar to Led Zeppelin's Physical Graffiti in that theres only one "hit" on the album but its full of some of the band's best "deep tracks" if you know what I mean
Was pumped to see Big Eyed Fish live in CLT Memorial Day weekend

Awesome, I will be there as well for my first Gorge trip. Really pumped.
Will be shows 29, 30 and 31 for me since 2000.

The leaked "Lillywhite Sessions" was a better version of mostly the same material.

That is DMB's best album IMO if it had been finished with Lillywhite producing in 2000.
It had the makings of one of the greatest musical recordings in a long time.
Shame they gave up because it got too hard.
Busted Stuff doesn't do it justice there are a couple songs that are almost as good (grey St.) but most of the others are so empty compared to the emotions on LWS.

That's because the Lillywhite Sessions are still raw and unfinished. DMB's biggest problem when it comes to studio recordings is that they're over-produced. I always felt like live-in-the-studio was the way to go with that band to try to capture the energy and spontaneity of a live performance.

I sit.
I tried to do that at a DMB show one time because my feet were killing me. The people behind me kept lifting me back up.
