I remember kicking around state street back in the early 90s when someone suggested we walk over to the varsity because there was a free show... It was DMB...

Never heard of him at the time.. Hated it... Would have never guessed he'd have gotten as big as he did...

Not really a fan. Some offbeat songs are good, and I'll enjoy them when they come on. But I can do with out the rest.

I don't hate on them or anyone who is a fan. in high school it was always funny that dave Matthews fans were seen as giant pussies.

When I think of Dave fanboys I think of the type of guys who wear Teva's with socks.

I like the bands music but I despise his singing.

Was on State and made this same walk. I thought it was a good show and have been a fan since.

DMB was my 1st band of "my generation" that I listened to outside of country music. My parents raised me on classic rock & country. But then when DMB hit the scene, I was a pre-pubescent teen just trying to figure out girls & life. This band simply did that for me then opened the doors to many more during & after them.

I'll never tire of their albums or sound. It's like losing your virginity, when it was actually good, you just never forget lr let go of your 1st.

I'm a big fan. I understand the hate. Watch an unedited youtube video to get a taste of the moronic and annoying conversations going on. "Dude, I told you they were going to play this!" Congrats you guessed they were going to play Ants Marching and knew it by the incredibly recognizable drum intro. You can now stop talking about it halfway through the song. The same people don't shut up with something rare is played.

Re: southern rock, Warren Haynes sitins are always good. Down by the River

Re: watchtower. It's tough to copy an already great song. Chicago '98 This is a great version with a bunch of solos.

And I can say the same thing about U2.

I find that pretty much everyone who says this generally doesn't know jack shite about U2's music. They were a really diverse band. I mean, every album was essentially different (listen to War, Rattle N Hum, and then Pop and try and disagree with me).

Listen to these songs and tell me they weren't diverse:

Bullet the Blue Sky
Do You Feel Loved
Like A Song
The Wire
Drowning Man
Ordinary Love

Very, very few bands can be as diverse as U2 and pull it off.

Dave Matthews Band is like the Allman Brothers with Duane? Hahahahahahaha. Jesus Christ, man. That's just plain wrong.

Thread is not complete without the DMB copypasta.

It all starts off in the lot when me and my boys are in a circle poundin' Busch Lights while were blastin' Ants Marching from my new Jeep Grand Cherokee. Ya my Jeep is white and i know it gets dirty easily but frick it, the bitches love that shite. As we pass around our fat fricking bottle of Absolute Strawberry, we just scope out hotties while we try to ward off all other loser Chads, as the bitches flock to my Jeep like a fricking watering hole in the desert. SLUTS. Me and my Bro's don't even head in until the 3rd song. As we walk in I stick in a fatty dip of grizzly bear and simultaneously smoke a cig and drink the rest of my warm Busch light. So were in the show. We start just pushing our way to the front. Lights. Dave. Black dude on drums. Jesus on Saxophone. SLUTS. By this point every song sounds just the fricking same as the other one. But I know Dave is fuggin killin' it anyways. I grab this girl next to me and we makeout for a solid 15min during Crash Into Me. I finally push that bitch off and low and behold some other slut starts grabbin my arse. After that I head to the bathroom with my bros and wait in line for 20 mins. We head back to our spot and some jackass is standing there. I'm about to bust his ugly Ted Danson lookin' face in, but before I can he whips out a joint and offers me and my crew to smoke up. He tells me he's there watching his daughter and her friends that are all in high school. Next thing I know I wake up in my Jeep with my dick hanging out of my zipper. Now this has happened to me before so it doesn't even phase me. I just pop in a sick 03' Dave CD and fricking cruise home.

I never said they were not diverse. I said I didn't care for them.

The only way I would listen to 6 U2 songs would be at gun point.

If you want to U2 your arse off, have at it. Perhaps your obsession will make up for my complete and total disinterest.

Remember Jack shite, liking or not liking a band's music comes down to one's taste, nothing more.

A good U2 song. Pop is an underrated album but Achtung is their best IMO

I tend to agree. U2 sucks now but their older stuff is much more experimental and diverse than people criticizing them realize. I'm sure they're basing it off the regular radio rotation. Acrobat is my favorite song by them.

I worked at the Georgia Theatre in Athens from 93-96. I don't remember which year it was but they came to Athens and did the Ants Marching live video at the Georgia Theatre during the concert. I had a lot of friends who were really looking forward to the show as they were big fanboys. We went to the lake a few weekends before the show and I was forced to listen to Remember Two Things about 20 times through. Of course, I had to do the stare at the CD cover to see the hand thing because it was super cool to my friends. I listened to the CD a good bit more before in the few weeks leading up to the show. Kind of grew on me.

I helped set up the hospitality room that day and the band arrived earlier than expected. They had a interview session set up at Uptown Lounge (same guys owned the Theatre) and I got to escort them from the Theatre to Uptown and back. I was backstage for that show and really had no clue how good they were live as had just recently been introduced to their music. I stood stage right most of the show and was kind of overwhelmed that the guys I had been hanging around for 2 hours had that big a following. Place was at capacity and they were as tight and musically talented as any group I had seen come through. The only show I ever saw there that I considered equal was The Funky Meters in 96.

After the show, myself and a co-worker got high as shite with the band in the hospitality room while their crew loaded all their shite on the bus. Fun night. I have always enjoyed their music since then but they are in a secondary tier for me as far as all time favorite bands. Probably in the 15-20 range.
