Back to the Shack was the only somewhat weak song, but it's tolerable.

Could be great if not for the endless references to California, L.A., etc. shite really gets on my nerves for some reason.

The music is über California, L.A. stale. Big time.

Sounds like the late 90´s, and some Disney girls like the little Spears, Selena Gómez, and the two twins with the pop eyes from Full House should be dancing around as if the music were ´cool´.

Yes. Blue album and Pinkerton for sure

Also, I'm pretty sure this album is some kind of LA/summer concept album similarly to Pinkerton being a madame butterfly concept.

Sounds promising. I haven't been able to get into a whole album of theirs since Pinkerton. Lots of solid individual songs though.

I've changed my opinion. This record is really good. I guess I had to look past the dud that "Thank God For Girls" is. The rest is pretty great! I still prefer EWBAITE, and of course Blue Album and Pinkerton.

it seems more like a tongue in cheek kind of joke or even an homage than a ripoff

i've actually grown to like thank god for girls now and I didn't think it was possible

reading the lyrical annotations from rivers, it makes more sense.

I'm enjoying it.

But I still think Ric Ocasek adds something that their self-produced albums etc don't have, Rick Rubin's beard notwithstanding. Jake Sinclair (White Album producer) seems pretty millennial/top-40. Probably a good fit for this album though.

was once in a Weezer cover band

he's produced a lot of big pop bands/artists... I like the production of this album a lot.

No doubt. Clearly sounds like Rivers goal was to make a chilling on the beach album.

Weezer sucks dick. That 2009 abortion of a single they put out should have been the end of that band.
