Aaron Watson

I think he is somewhat underrated. A lot of his songs, specifically the slower ones, are more traditional than some of the other big Texas Country bands going right now.

Aaron Watson - Next To Heaven (Acoustic)
Aaron Watson - Barbed Wire Halo
Aaron Watson - Shut Up and Dance

lots of great posts, so I'll just add:

REK .. love his recordings, live shows are hit or miss. Main thing about live is don't have expectations of a high energy show.

Pat Green .. ok, I get he 'sold' out, but I question whether we as fans should begrudge any artist for expanding his base / career for the sake of being 'loyal' to his roots; so he leaned Pop Country and made some $$. btw, there are two Pat Green's .. the drunk, unshaven one that plays the Varsity and the clean-cut, sober one that plays Hard Rock Casino. I prefer the former.

Roger Creager .. should get more love for his 'live shows' .. they are high energy, which is my preference.

L Boogie .. yeah, she pisses me off, too.

eta: I'm now getting Randy Rogers Band advertisements from Tigerdroppings ..

Also, Austin's KVET 98.1 is great for Texas Country nightly between 7PM-12AM during "The Roadhouse" show. This show has me listening to the radio specifically for music for the first time in YEARS. Before, Id only turn the radio on for the morning shows while driving to work.

I know this station is available on the iHeartRadio app.

I was just about to post this. Hands down my favorite station...nothing but Americana and TX Country all the time.

KVET's good sometimes (and the Roadhouse is great) but they play their fair share of Nashville shite. Never had that problem with KNBT. Wish we got it in Austin. :(

Agree! I don't listen to KVET at all during the day other than the morning show because they play crap country. But at 7pm every night, when the music turns to the Texas scene, I think it's hard to beat.

If RRB does the same show I've seen a couple of times now (not that they are that predictable, I've just seen them a TON in the last few months), Randy will most likely play an acoustic version of "They Call it the Hill Country". Sometimes the second encore is full band for "Interstate", sometimes "Interstate" is the last song BEFORE the encore. I'd like to hear your thoughts on the shows afterwards. :) They are 2 of my very favorites and I've seen them both a lot lately so I'd like to know if they do anything differently

Well the show was great as it always is when these two are involved. Wade kicked off the show with Nobody's Fool and played a mixture of his old stuff with a few new ones thrown in. His set was cut short because of technical difficulties, the sound cut off in the middle of a couple of his songs right as the crowd, (which was pretty weak as expected), started to get into the show a little. He handled the situation well, even though you could tell he was frustrated, by coming out and playing a couple of songs acoustically since that was the only sound they had at that time. RRB came out and blew the doors off the place. They started off their set with Interstate and had the same problem with the sound during one of their songs. They all came down off the stage and played the first verse of Tonights Not the Night campfire style and that was awesome, gotta love "Unplugged" music. The power was good for the rest of their set. Played a couple of songs off their upcoming record that I havent heard and I can honestly say that like all their other records this one will be good. I was on the fence when they released One More Sad Song, thinking that they might be going for more a Nashville sound, but the song has grown on me and the other tracks that Ive heard are legit. Every time Ive seen Randy he has always came back out for the first encore and played either Empty Glass or They Call it the Hill Country acoustically except this time, they came back out full band and played This Time Around to end the show. Sad to say that after Wade went off stage he went straight to his bus and they left soon after without any collaboration at all with Randy, I am dissapoint. Overall a good show as expected.

Sounds awesome, and I like that Randy changed it up a bit! Sucks about the sound, that may be why Wade didn't come back out...but I'm glad it happened for your sake because that's a great way to hear Randy, even if it was only for one song.

I had a similar thing happen at a Will Hoge show at Stubb's, only he planned it...absolutely rocked out for 2 hours and then, for the encore, he led everyone outside, gathered us all in a circle and did an "unplugged" version of "The Highway's Home". It was beautiful...best song of the night, in my opinion, but that's my favorite way to see an artist.

Glad you had a good time!

ETA: And yes, the new RRB should be killer
