I am extremely naive to the genre but who does the Board consider the best right now? The up an comer? The trusty old faithful?

Seeing alot of talk of Charlie Robison, REK, Pat Greene, RR band lately. Looking to get feet wet.

Turnpike troubadours are the best doing it right now. Jason boland is and always will be at the top as well.

Check out American aquarium as well

that's debatable, and I love TT

If you check out Pat Green, get anything before Three Days

It depends on what kind of country music you want. The music made by groups like Turnpike Troubadours and American Aquarium is nothing like Owen Temple, or Max Stalling, or Dub Miller, but Owen and Max and Dub have some fantastic country music.

Bruse Robison > Charlie Robison

check out some older albums from Cross Canadian Ragweed and Jason boland and the Stragglers

The Damn Quails are fantastic

Hayes Carll is a great story teller and song writer, as is James McMurtry

Phil Pritchett is one of the most under-rated Texas artists around

Robert Earl Keen is the gold standard

I wore out Roger Creager's first two albums

Ryan Bingham, of course

Stoney Larue may have the best vocals in Texas

Walt Wilkins might be the nicest guy in Texas music

Well yea of course it is. Any statement regarding music that states "such and such is the best" always needs to be taken as personal taste.

I just personally feel like they are putting out better country music at this time than anyone else.

I've always loved this one from Townes...

I've been a big fan of RR, Keen, Stoney, and pre-sell out Green. I've really been getting into Turnpike Troubaors lately. Some other good ones to check out are:

Cross Canadian Ragweed
Mikey and the Motorcars
Wade Bowen
The Lost Trailers
Reckless Kelly
Radney Foster
Cory Morrow
Django Walker
Jerry Jeff Walker
Kevin Fowler
David Lee Murphy
No Justice
Aaron Watson
Blue Edmonson

And really the way you should look at the music genre is Texas Red Dirt Country as its a mix of Texas and Oklahoma artists. Some even refer to it as Alternative Country.

Good list. I'll add Terry Allen, James McMurtry (sp), The Gourds (although they go beyond typical Texas country, lot of cajun influence),Shiny Ribs (One of the Gourds singers) Doug Sahm, Slaid Cleaves, .......
