re: Name a little known fact about the Civil War - Fat Man
Union soldiers from New Orleans, tired of the snipping and sniping on the strategically-valueless Northshore, burned the railroad bridge at Manchac, then landed in Madisonville. The soldiers marched up river to Covington, where they walked through the streets tearing down Confederate banners, insign...

re: Looking to build an Acadian style home up here in Okie Land. LA architect recommendations? - Fat Man
As a builder, I designed, built and sold over 100 Acadian style homes in some of Mandeville's better subdivisions. Let me offer some thoughts: Since the Acadian requires a symmetrical front porch, it severely limits flexibility of the interior flood plan ... center foyer, room right, room left. W...

re: Dept of Labor new fiduciary rules on IRAs ... ETA: Gov't will benefit ... cui bono - Fat Man
From what I can tell (ETA to OP), the new rules benefit full service brokerage firms and the US Govt tax revenue. 1) Publicly complain about banks and Wall Street 2) Pass rule in Department of Labor that gives 1.25% of IRAs to brokerage firms. 3) Firms pay maybe 1/3 of that to US Treasury. 4) ...
I have a sophomore at MHS already, but No. 2 is looking at St. Paul's.
Between Mandeville High and St. Paul's, the question is NOT which school is better. The question is which school is right for your child? MHS could be right for one, SPS could be right for the other. Without...

Sun Tzu's Art of War meets the Art of the Deal - Fat Man
The POTUS keeps dropping droppings that are silly, irrelevant, unverifiable or just wrong. Like a topwater lure to an angry bass, the media hits it with mouth wide open. Basic tenet of the Art of War is distraction. Basic tenet of negotiations is hide one's true objective. While critics roil a...

re: Republicans introduce SS reform measure....... - Fat Man
Republicans
The article only names one Republican. I'm not saying there aren't more, but it's disingenuous to assign this plan to "Republicans." The article features a picture of the POTUS-elect, who is on the record for opposing entitlement reforms ( a stand, I for one, disagr...
