Chops, I don't concur with your opinion of Slick's opinion. Hag is the greatest IMO.

Also, why I'm throwing MHO's around, I don't get American Aquarium. I think I should like them and have spent a fair amount of money on their stuff trying to find the appeal. But it's not there. Writing is kinda bush league and the vocals are bad. I give up.

Houston Marchman: South Texas Rain, Del Rio, Sweet Love, Still in San Antoine, Viet Nashville.....start with those

Mike Dean:
Local artist from South Louisiana I enjoy the most. Has 4 albums available on itunes. Great songwriter

Waylon is my favorite artist form the older generation. Find a bunch of his songs that never got released and dl em. Some great ones. My drinkin music.

Others i don't think were mentioned yet I enjoy
Cory Morrow
Aaron Watson
Deryl Dodd
Don Williams

The very best way to keep up with the latest in country music is to follow the Saving Country Music Blog. Triggerman writes rants and reviews so you can keep up with what to listen to, and more importantly what not to. His rants on the bro-country stuff are hysterical. Example

eh, i have always fancied vocals that were a little different, couldn't tell you why.

i really like songs about heartbreak/ache, probably more than i should. they have a lot of those songs. sad songs make me happy

And now we get “Truck Yeah,” and “Lookin’ For That Girl” that makes a two-time Country Music Association Male Vocalist of the Year sound like Stephen Hawking reciting middle school sex ramblings

That review is gold.

I completely agree. He puts his mediocre voice behind songs that other people write..

As far as mainstream, present day country, Jamey Johnson is as country as it comes. He's a true country artist and his music is the tits.
