So, you have to sit down and watch it all at once for it to be worthwhile? Brilliant.

if it all came out at once people would sign up for a weekend and watch them all and cancel.
See, I don't think so. Netflix is proving this to be completely untrue. I signed up for Netflix for Daredevil for the free month with the idea that I would cancel after I watched it. I still have it and wouldn't give it up for the world. They have a weekly show on it that sucks, but other than that, if all of their shows went to week to week, I would cancel.

Also for some shows I think watching weekly and trying to figure it out is part of the experience. Being on Twitter during or here right after GOT airs works cos we all watch it at the same time, when HOC comes out it doesn't get the same buzz or feeling cos we all watch at a different pace.
This is understandable and really a matter of opinion. I think for shows with 6-12 episodes a season that are not procedural should be released as a whole and then discussed. You can talk about each episode as you go, or just wait and talk about the entire thing after you watch the season. For me it's more important and a better "experience" to watch them all together. Better to have a good viewing experience than a better discussion experience, and I don't even think it would necessarily be a better discussion experience. That's just my opinion.

I just don't get why we should HAVE to watch them week to week. If people want to watch it week to week, fine. But I think things are starting to change for the better. Now HBO is coming out and saying this. The fact is, if the show is better watched as a whole, then release it that way. Don't design shows that are better fit for a certain structure then not follow that structure. Just my opinion.

Worthwhile? No. Better? Yes.

There was zero way this season was going to live up to the hype.

Hell, the first season had a weird, convoluted plot, we were all just so enthralled with MM that it didn't matter.

Especially with 6 episodes of nothing happening.

I still like the show, too many people IMHO are expecting season 1. There is no connectivity so if you view it as a different show it's awesome. I did enjoy season 1 better but I like this one a lot as well

I agree with this. Season 1 set the bar so high that expectations for season 2 were even higher. I think it is a decent show. My only complaint is that i think Vince Vaughn should have played Colin Farrell's character and vice versa. Vaughn just doesn't sell the character he is playing.

Dude seriously? Just about everything about this season is awful.

The plot is all over the place (why do we care about Stan?), the writing is terrible, the gay cop story line...

A bunch of rich guys have wild sex parties and did some back room land deals. They killed one of their partners who was trying to blackmail them.

There is no comparison. The mystery and creepiness from Season 1 was what made the show.

season 1 would not be held in nearly as high of esteem if it was all released at once and there was no buildup between weeks

now, all of that buildup ended up being pointless, but that was the primary driver of the show's popularity (it was a real lost jr.)

Exactly. Like we don't know this goes on. Hell, rich guy sex parties go on at the Tarpon Rodeo. I didn't realize it only had two episodes left. Not sure how they are going to get shite done. I have appreciated VV and CF's performances though.

my wild guess is that Farell's ex was involved with the sex ring in the past

Does everyone die at the end? Because that's the only way this statement can be true for me.

Meh, the last 3 episodes of season 1 were not that great i did not feel the hype train was that high compared to other shows(breaking bad, Game of Thrones, ect) that lived up or exceeded the hype.

season 2 has just been full of hot air

If they can, they should drop Nic and open season 3 to every big time writer in the business. I think there's still enough value in the true detective "brand" from season 1 that writers will jump at the opportunity to create their crime drama masterpiece.

What made season 1 great was that it was in a different, interesting setting with unique characters in a familiar plot.

The crime drama aspect is never going to be new. But if you give me a setting like the Badlands of North Dakota or the coast of Maine or the Everglades, I'll be interested.

Thank G O D ! ! ! ! ! !

I've been wondering who Stan was and why I should give two stinking shits about him or his family. I thought my old age was kicking in and just didn't remember the character enough to know I should care. Now I realize it wasn't me.

Thanks

Exactly this. Louisiana was one of the characters of season 1. Without that special setting and very good actors, season 2 is just a confused storyline with overwrought dialogue. It makes no sense to film a season in LA.

I was hoping L.A. and the whole noir thing would be there but it just hasn't. The direction has felt disjointed and hasnt had that vision that first season had

I think Louisiana was just closer to home so he knew how to handle it better.

If the lead HBO exec says we are watching it wrong, it's on them for airing it wrong.

What's the other way to watch it? They expect people to wait 2 months with single episodes dropping then watching it all like a netflix series?
