you make a great point

if I was in the film budniss, I would have someone go through terrible movies with great premises that were not executed properly, figure out what they did wrong, and then redo them properly

Public Enemies. I still can't believe how bad that movie sucked after I spent two years coveting it. You have to TRY to make that movie not awesome. And they apparently tried hard.

Ghostrider is another candidate.

I guarentee we'll be hearing about this within 5 years: The Last Airbender. They'll probably wait for the Shyamalan thing to blow over and let the sequel series do it's stuff. The people at Paramount are probably going to notice the ratigs to "The Legend of Korra" and more importantly the demographics. Hopefully they'll take the source material more seriously next time since they are literally sitting on the next Lord of the Rongs or Harry Potter franchise if they do it correctly and respect the source material, and hell have the people who made the original source material greatly involved in the adaptation.

Battle of the Bulge
Heartbreak Ridge
The Longest Day (not a bad movie at all by 1961 standards, but I would like to see it remade using today's techology and camera techniques).

that show is too good with too large a following to let the abortion of a movie that was made be its legacy.

this is a MUST remake

I really don't see the hatred for this film. I honestly thought it was fairly decent. Yeah it could have been better, but I didn't see anything particullarly terrible about the film.

Transformers
Dune
He-Man
Spawn (unlikely cause I think his popularity fell off, but the origin story is cool)

I'd say the reasoning behind this is pretty simple. Public opinion/ Knowledge.

If you want to remake, say Terminator, well everyone knows and loves it so of course they'll go see it again. It was a box office success once, and that means it will be again.

Remaking Battlefield Earth which sucked and made no money, would garner no interest at all, even if it was done correctly. Doing it this way would require a MASSIVE pr battle out front just to get the new film onto a level surface.

Everything in Hollywood is money, so if something doesn't make sense to you, think about how things make sense financially and you'll understand.

I dislike both versions (movie and mini-series), they need to pour a lot of money in it to do it right though and I'm not sure there's enough of a market for it to make that kind of investment worthwhile.
