I am so fricking over Kate. Put your big girl panties on (cause you know they are) and open up, already. I'm lucky enough to have both of my parents around, still, but 20+ years after the fact and she still can't talk about her dad? That's supremely lame.

It was likely the only guy that ever loved her (other than Kevin). I'd bet that is fricking rough.

Yea and it all kinda falls back on rebecca with keeping the secret about the guy from the band. Jack does valentines day alone, has a drink(remember Miguel asking him to play wingman "but you don't have to drink") and gets in a wreck or something on the way home. Kids are at that age in the funeral scene.

You get the notion that as wonderful a marriage as they had, it's gonna end tragically.

That's the feeling I get and that the kids have something to resent Rebecca on about it.

Yeah, they're gonna have heard that fight or something. The Dad dying after a dinner alone and fight with the wife is HORRIBLE!!! Almost unrealistic that they turned out as well as they did after that. Unless there is much more through college years in the way of rebellion and drugs etc. Also, the mom in the cabin screaming and locking doors in Randalls acid trip is telling. If anything kills this show it will be balancing out the humor and the "feels". There is only so much an audience can take before they get turned off. How many times could you watch Terms of Endearment.

I always bring up NYPD Blue. I LOVED that show, but was ready to quit it when they toyed with giving his young son Theo lymphoma or some shite. I was done. It became unrealistic that one man could suffer that much and still function with the demons he already had. Take his son away at that point and Sipowicz pickles his liver and dies.... Has to.

Kate is going to have some sort of crisis and her mother is nowhere to be found.

This forces Jack into action but he had too much to drink and wraps his car around a tree.

Kate telling off Duke was not a surprise. That's exactly what I thought was going to happen there, though I had no idea his parents owned the joint which resulted in her getting booted. That part was weak to me. Did the parents not investigate at all? Duke's behavior is such that this can't be the first time someone at the camp had trouble with him. I assume that storyline is over and doesn't matter anymore anyway.

I think we know there's no question that Jack's death was tragic and it looks like there's going to be a blame game and/or "what ifs", guilt, regret etc... associated with it. Everyone is guessing that the fight with Rebecca instigated his drinking which will likely result in a car accident. Have no idea on there. It seems to be the obvious answer, but with this show, I don't know. I'm anxious to see how Randall's comment on dying when no one is looking plays into the Jack's demise. Does Jack survive the fight and first drinking episode a the restaurant, but start drinking again and increasing his drinking when "no one is looking"?

It appears that Kate was impacted most of all by his death. I'm not sure if that's because of something that happened with her that relates to the cause of his death or because Jack was her life preserver and her friend as well as her parent. Could be that her life went totally South after he was gone.

Randall has obvious life long problems, but who wouldn't have them now with what's going on in his life? His job is unraveling. His long lost father is dying and not cooperating while Randall has important deadlines, all at the same time his wife has to take off for a while to care for her mother. His brother is debuting in play he can't attend. He tries to do it all and please everyone, but he can't. He likes perfection and he's failing in his mind.

Kevin doing what Jack would have done by going to Randall was very moving. Probably not the best decision for his career, but it sure was moving and I bet it will be very significant.

The scene with Kevin and Miguel was well played.

This was a pretty packed episode.

I know. Once again a storyline involving Kate was the weakest part

Yeah I'm sure the parents are going to get rid of sometime paying thousands of dollars to them just because their brat kid told them someone was rude to him. Lol

I thought the scene at the play where he skips out was a little too dramatic. Nobody would do that

I kinda disagree. The way that phone call went, Randall almost sounded a little suicidal. Never know.

I agree with you. I didn't find it too dramatic either. There's bound to be some more history we don't know about yet, as well.

Kate is brutal to watch but you definitely get the feeling Jacks death will eventually explain why she is so terrible.

They need to give the mom something to redeem her character bc right now she is impossible to like.

Finally caught up

I'm really hoping Jack doesn't die like they are currently portraying.

"Die while no ones looking."

Anyone think it could be a suicide?

To hear Milo tell it, when we finally see how Miguel steps up for Rebecca in the wake of Jack's death, he says that everyone's opinion of Miguel will immediately do a 180, and folks are going to love him.

I think it's going to be interesting to see how it all plays out, but I also think it's going to be a good while before it does play out.
