Season 2 was tough for me to get through. Every episode I was praying that someone would knock off Ziggy.

Watch season 2 with the understanding that it's not about the ghetto as much and that you'll get back to those story lines. Imo it is as good as any of the others but it's different. I appreciate it a lot more now than I did the first go around because I wanted to know what was going on in the western....season 2 is a work of art.

3,4,1,2,5

with that said, i'm not a huge fan of season 2 but it's all retaliative; it's still better than 90% of the shite on TV.

ep 10 in season 2 might be the best ep of the entire series.

really the only thing that makes season 2 not great is ziggy. he's that fricking bad. though i felt for him at the end no spoilers

I hate when people say "oh people don't like season 2 because it's not in the hood" no people don't like season 2 becuase of ziggy. that is literally the only reason. It deals with the fricking mob how can you not like that? Ziggy is THAT bad.

Yeah, he's pretty terrible. He's the like the jar jar binks of Baltimore.

Gun to head I rate them 3,1,4,2,5, but I really think it's just easier to say:
Tier 1: 1, 3, 4.
Tier 2: 2, 5.

I'm still on season 3. I got hooked on season 1. Season 2 was very meh to me. They did a good job of keeping you updated on the goings on of the first season characters. That story picks up again in season 3 and is much more entertaining to me. Haven't had a lazy weekend in a while to binge watch, so I'm at a stand still. Overall its an entertaining show, but personally I dont consider it a GOAT show unless things happen in subsequent seasons that would change my mind.

I just finished watching the whole series, and like has been said before - season 2 may not be the most exciting gangster-wise, it is the most important because it details where the product comes from.
Every season has a new theme and they are all essential and fantastic.

Is the second season as good as the first? Third season? Should I keep watching or move on to Game of Thrones or something...

if you are having second thoughts then watch game of thrones, IMO.

I loved the wire, but if you didn't love season 1, then season 2 is gonna be tough for you to get through and you probably won't like seasons 3 and 4 as much as everyone else.

I honestly don't think the show is for everyone. I definitely loved it though.

That is the perfect analogy.

I thought season 1 was fantastic. As good as any season of any show ever. Ziggy definitely made season 2 a chore to get through. Also it has the whole, getting the band back together feel to it that's a bit cliché. Season 3 was very good and got me back in. I liked season 4 as well. Season 5 felt like season 2 of Heroes to me, an obvious and painful decline in story.

If I was ranking the sesons: 1..3,4..2......5. As a whole, a great series, top 5 definitely. But if I had to pick a series to rewatch, I would pick Breaking Bad, The Sopranos, and Game of Thrones before The Wire.

While i agree with you on the first part, saying people don't like season 2 becasue of Ziggy is just as bad. I admit watching season 2 the first time, i too was rooting for him to be taken out, but i came realize he was annoying for a reason. I don't "like" him, but that was kind of the point, he was an important character and no where near the utterly useless JarJar Binks.

As far as season 2, i put it this way, it is not as good as Season 1 (or 3 or 4) in the same sense that Charles Barkley isn't as good as Michael Jordan. It is still as you said better than 90% of shows that have been on TV, but still 4th of the 5 seasons of the Wire. My issue with it is that I think Simon is trying to hard to make his point. I won't get into spoliers, but I think he was beating us over the head with the main theme about the working class vs capitalism etc.

I keep saying I want to get into it but just starting out damn 5 seasons seems like an investment.

I believe Breaking Bad to be the best TV drama created. Is The Wire really on that same level?

I just finished season 2 of Breaking Bad, but, yes, The Wire is on that level.

The Wire is a level above Breaking Bad.

Br Ba has too many far fetched moments throughout the series. It's a great show but after seeing both I can't put it on the same level as The Wire.
