I just finished Season 4 and am starting the final season in the next day or two. They have all been excellent so far. I still give the edge to the Sopranos, but Season 5 could change my mind.

The Wire is hands down the best series that has been on TV. If you are a huge fan of the show you can literally spend 10 minutes describing about 50 characters on the show. If you haven't gotten into it or are just starting go season 1 to 5 in order and you won't be dissapointed

+1 the way that season ended was classic, sets up the rest of series better then any other season.

Season 2 is just another look into Baltimores complex crime wave. It sets up all the big players in the Wire that are working behind the scenes. I am not the biggest fan of season 2 but its part of the bigger picture. Personally i rank them 3,1,4,2, and 5. The whole media crap just ruined the final season of the Wire. They had so many great characters in this series then u end u with the B team in the end??? Again it part of the bigger picture but just a weak way to end an epic series like the Wire IMHO.

As huge of a Sopranos fan as I am, The Wire is just better. It's tough to swallow at first, but then you just cannot deny it.

My only beef with The Wire was its ending. I feel that one more season was in order.

Season 6 would have been about the influx of Latinos into Baltimore and focused on all the issues that this has brought (gang wars with Marlo would've probably been one of them).

first of all

Season 2 was the best season. Ziggy, Uncle Frank, Nicky and the Greek are some of the most compelling characters throughout the entire series. Plus, the story linking the various characters from supply to the street was amazing

other than that, Fuzzy Dunlop and the girls in the can are the next best seasons

the worst three in order:

politics
"the kids"
the press

but I thought it was a great ending. All that work, and nothing changes, yet they still go on doing what they do.

I agree. Frank Sobotka was one of my favorite characters in the show.

**SPOILERS**

The scene leading up to Frank's murder was one of the best scenes of the series IMO. As I began to realize what was about to happen, I couldn't help but feel sorry for the guy.

Season 2? Yall are kidding right? Ziggy and his fricking duck shouldve been shot before the theme music played on episode 1 and the smart cousin was on screen all season and basically all he did was just flare his big nostrils to show how mad he was all the time. Omar on the stand was the only thing redeeming those polish goons.

Season 1 in the pits and the one with Michael and co. at school were the best.

The Pollocks annoyed me, so season 2 was one of my least favorite.

The streets were by far the best aspect of the show.

Regardless, it's the greatest show of all time, and you rarely see anyone say otherwise.

Did anyone else like Marlo? It seems like I'm the only one when I talk to people. "My name IS MY NAME!"

spoiler

I still wish Omar would've taken him out though, or at least one of his posse, but Michael took care of one of them.

me too. i think omar taking out at least chris if not Marlo THEN getting shot by Kennard would've been much better

The tall pollack's baby momma did have some awesome tits though i will give them that much

ziggy was annoying

nicky was solid. corrupted soul who sold out for self gain

frank was awesome. thought he was helping the world when he was only fricking it. absolutely destroyed his life and the lives of everyone around him for his well-intentioned actions

also the underlying class warfare of season 2 was great. just written crisply and developed at a perfect pace

Season 3 has to be the best of all of them.

It's the one season where all of the hardest gangsters somehow converge and SPOILER....

Stringer Bell's murder was a thing of beauty, ven though I was a fan of his. Omar and Brother teaming up and showing mutual respect and that neither had no fear made great tv.

I never liked Marlo, but I gotta admit that he showed some major playa brains when he didn't fall for that hooker shite. I would have liked to have seen Slim Charles take him out in the end (instead of Cheese) and all signs were pointing that way. I also didn't like Michael being the one to do Snoop. I don't think Snoop waa dumb enough to not realize that he was going to catch on. Chris, meanwhile, got little justice - life in prison. Somebody should have gotten him. I was thinking McNulty would step above the law and do him.

Again, this is why I wasn't satisfied with the way things ended and believe that a 6th season was needed. Too much focus on the newspaper for the last season and the Jimmy and Lester scandal didn't do the show justice. A 6th season that gave equal focus to the gangs and homicide (instead of paper or docks or schools) would have been better, IMO. Also, Prezbolowski should have gotten back in with homicide....Clay Davis should have had a much more corrupt ending...Royce should have resurfaced as something....Carcetti should have gotten exposed in that very brief affair...The 0vertime issue should have created a police strike...so, so much was left on the table. I am just pointing out things that could have been dealt with. The ending was lazy, IMO to an otherwise brilliant 5 seasons.

Stringer Bell was my favorite character, followed by Omar.
