I don't think the show could have ended the way you described and still be The Wire. The show goes out of its way to not provide a satisfying resolution to its plots. I was not crazy about the new characters in Season 5 but the final episode is about as perfect as you can ask. There could potentially be interesting stories that the show could have pursued in a 6th season but I think it would have still concluded in much the same way. Institutions perpetuate themselves and while the players may change, the game remains the same.

Too much focus on the newspaper for the last season and the Jimmy and Lester scandal didn't do the show justice.

absolutely

6th season that gave equal focus to the gangs and homicide

it would've been great for 6 to go back to the Season 1 premise with an influx of new characters mixed in with the old

quote:

Prezbolowski should have gotten back in with homicide....Clay Davis should have had a much more corrupt ending...Royce should have resurfaced as something....Carcetti should have gotten exposed in that very brief affair

wrong on all accounts

it would have been a dis-service to one of the greatest shows ever if they had wrapped everything up in a nice neat package with closure for every character. The game is bigger than any one person or group of people. The Wire was just a flash in the pan of a bigger theater.

I'll say it again, the ending was perfect..... and Snaximus is an idiot

I agree that the end was perfect. The greatest appeal of the show is the reality of the story. Simon and Burns truly wrote a realistic story line. That shite happens, (maybe not the making up of a serial killer) but the rest of it.

The ending was as real as the rest of it. I would have loved to see another season of the show but I think it would have hurt the story.

i dont need some guy that Hunter Brown despises and who thinks 1982 was 16 years ago to tell me that po old white man working on the docks and buying rounds at the local tavern was the best season ever. You probably enjoyed Beatie Russell making her rounds by the containers too.

And the newspaper/fake serial killer shite the last season was stupid. after a couple of episodes of it i fast forwarded through all of those scenes, made watching the last season fly by. Also, the whole Carcetti storyline was stupid too.

DID YOU KNOW: that the old big black dude that helped Omar in jail and got shot when Omar jumped out the building was the real life Omar and actually jumped out of a building just like that. And the old preacher who advised the politicians and cops was one of the real Avon Barksdales.

Don't have a problem with much of what you said except this. Carcetti and the schools were a good storyline. The show was about Baltimore and you can't do that without exploring the political failures in the city.

i dont know why seeing carcetti shuttle around with his advisor 500 times to kiss arse at a bunch of black groups was really needed to help the school storyline. Prezbo and Bunny's scenes were enough for that.

He has to not take the money. He can fix the school and therefore, theoretically, Baltimore if he gives up his ambition to become Governor by accepting money from the Republican Governor. Instead of doing what was right for the city, he does what is right for himself.

Edit: Prezbo and Bunny's storylines don't have nearly as much impact without Carcetti.

Omar is unreal. He gets better, too.

You wouldn't imagine so many people would be so enamored with an african american, gay gang banger. He might be the best character ever on TV.
