Heaven forbid families go see a family movie.
It's not really the family part that bothers him, it's the fact that you have children so young going to the movie that they have no way of understanding and processing, much less enjoying. If this was the Wiggles movie, I'd understand it, but live action Jungle Book? leave your 3 year olds at the house.

Friday estimates are in and The Jungle Book is roaring to life with an estimated $32.4 million opening day. The film is now pushing toward a $90+ million opening, which would be enough for the third largest April opening weekend of all-time, challenging Captain America: The Winter Soldier's $95 million from 2014 for second place on that list.

They didn't have Mowgli return to the man village at the end of this one and that bugged me. Also, why the hell is porcupine in a 19th century Indian jungle using the term "my bad"? Took me out of the movie briefly.
Why are the animals talking at all and how come they don't have punjabi accents. arggh so non original.

I just saw it today. Theater was packed with kids. Only one kid had to be taken out by their parent b/c they were crying, but it's hard to tell if it was the movie or just a toddler being a toddler because they were really young.
As for the movie, it was really good although I think I paid a price because I went in with this movie being so hyped, overhyped it turns out, and I wasn't blown away by it like I was hoping and like a lot of reviews suggest. I was expecting an A+ and got a solid B, so it was still a really good movie I just think i probably went in with my expectations a little higher than they should have been.
With that said, the 1994 live action version is still my favorite Jungle Book movie.

Saw it today with my 3 year old, the only noise she made was crying on the way home because she wanted to see it again. She sat on my lap the whole time and gripped me tight a few times but did so great, not a peep. We both loved it. Sorry if that pisses on the haters parade.....

Ijust saw that WB has a Jungle Book live action coming out next year with Benedict Cumberbach and Christian Bale directed by Andy Serkis.

Just got back watching this with my daughter and nephew in IMAX. We all absolutely loved it. It changed a bit from the animated classic, but I thought the changes made it better.
Edit: And more cowbell. :)

Saw it last night with my wife at the 10:05 Alamo Drafthouse showing.
The movie was solid, Disney is on a tear...but, I walked away saying Christopher Walken ain't no Louis Prima, for sure.

Never said I hated, in fact I said it was a solid film. Just think it's a little overhyped, IMO.

I brought my 3 year and except for having to go to the bathroom a few times(we sit near the exit so not to bother too many people) she did great. She was only scared of Kaa really but that didn't last long.

My wife and I took our 3 year old son today and he loved it. Wasn't scared the least. But then again Darth Vader is one of his favorite characters in Star Wars.

With an estimated $103.5 million opening, The Jungle Book will be the talk of the town for the next couple weeks. It's an opening number that exceeds all expectations despite the pre-release buzz. Heading into the weekend the film had an impressive 95% rating at RottenTomatoes, a rating that was reflected in audience opinion as opening day moviegoers rewarded it with an "A" CinemaScore. The result is the second largest April opening weekend of all-time behind only last year's Furious 7. Estimates say 43% of the film's domestic opening came from 3D equipped theaters and 10% of the domestic weekend came from 376 IMAX screens.
Internationally the film expanded into a total of 49 international territories from which it brought in $136.1 million, bringing the family feature's global tally to a whopping $290.9 million. Of those territories the leader is China with an estimated $50.3 million weekend. International cumes for other territories include India with $20.1 million followed by Russia ($14.2m), UK ($13.7m), Australia ($7.9m), France ($7.7m), Mexico ($7.6m), Germany ($5.6m), Argentina ($4.8m), Malaysia ($4.0m), Spain ($3.9m), Brazil ($3.1m) and Italy ($3.1m). Next weekend sees openings in the Czech Republic, Greece, Hungary and New Zealand while it won't open in Korea until June and Japan won't be getting it until August.
The Jungle Book's opening weekend is shy only of Alice in Wonderland's $116.1 million opening back in 2010 when compared to Disney's recent fantasy adaptations and should be well on its way to a $300+ million domestic run.

So, we'll get a sequel then? Good. Hopefully they've been planning that because the kid who plays Mowgli is already 12/13 years old.

I think they already said a sequel would be coming. This movie exceeded all box office expectations this weekend.
