Boardwalk Empire is vastly underrated on that list.

Girls before Boardwalk?!?!

So 4.8 seasons of Boardwalk Empire ends up at 20 while one season of The Leftovers is at 15? Horrific list.

Rome although short was better than Girls, Bored to Death, and The Leftovers.

I'd go as far to say that True Blood wasbetter than Girls...

Seriously... Girls?

No Entourage... But you have Girls.

No Da Ali G... But you have Girls.

No Arliss.... But Girls.

Impossible not to rank Sopranos as #1 simply because it really did put HBO on the map for most people. Six Feet Under was actually one of the best series that HBO ever aired. Of course the Wire is great also. Curb should be no lower than 4th and Game of Thrones is certainly high quality as well. Hard to rank them other than that in my opinion though, too many variables.

I truly believe Silicon Valley will end up being HBO's best comedy series. Still in infant stages though.

Silicon Valley is what the Big Bang Theory tries to be and fails. This is real nerd humor. Algorithms with dick jokes and a SWOT Analysis where they plot someone's death. Those are smart fricking jokes, and it's clear you're not going to get everything the first time you watch it. Big Bang Theory has no subtlety to it whatsoever, while the funniest parts of Silicon Valley is in the subtext.

Oz and Mr. Show should probably both rank higher because those are the shows that put HBO on the map. Well, and because Mr. Show is the best sketch comedy show ever made. Oz's late decline was awful, but that's punishing it for lasting longer wile newer shows made the top 10 and we don't consider their inevitable declines.

And while everyone will rightfully point out Girls is tremendously overrated, so is Veep. I don't think that show is nearly as funny as it thinks it is. Silicon Valley blows its doors off. Veep is now when I walk my dog before Last Week Tonight comes on. I just couldn't take how relentlessly cynical the show was without offering any sort of alternative. I mean, at least Silicon Valley is offering some sort of hope and characters you want to see succeed.

I'd like to see a ranking of HBO mini-series

Of course the undisputed #1 would be Band of Brothers.

I love Oz (until the end) and Mr. Show was great too. And of course Silicon Valley is really well done and moving up the ladder very quickly, which is why I said there are so many variables to what is a top ten show that it is impossible to decide for me outside of the mega ones.

Bored to Death (which was OK) ahead of Larry Sanders? fricking Girls ahead of Mr. Show, Rome, and Boardwalk? The Wire being #1 is probably the only thing I agree with. Dogshit otherwise.

And Larry Sanders is even underrated on this forum. Might be my 3rd favorite comedy behind AD/Peep Show.

You don't need to be a hipster to appreciate Lena Dunham and 'Girls'. It's among my favorite shows on TV and certainly in my hbo top 10, and my wardrobe is like 73% Brooks Brothers.
