Everyone is going to assume so... I know I do. But maybe not?

I really don't think that's the case, especially if he's anywhere near as large as he is in the Hologram.

one positive is that at this point I think we can safely say the death star trope is going to be retired for a lonnnnng time.

Its pretty fricking obvious she's Luke's daughter. If shes not, I'll be shocked.

Issac was lacking.

My biggest complaint.
They didn't give him nearly enough to do.

I think the Supreme Leader is Plagius. Notice he didn't get mad. more cerebral, he expects Ren to try but fail and says at the end he needs more training. Plagius had that style in the books. Even looked kind of like him.

Kylo Ren deciding he didn't need BB88 or Han going light speed through the shield felt very very very forced to me.

I can agree with this to an extent. I was a bit bewildered for a second on both of these, but quickly forgot due to how much I was enjoying myself.

That's my guess... but it feels almost too obvious.

Yea there are similarities but the only plot point that is the same is that they blow up the super sized Death Star at the end. It was the first movie so to connect to fans they are gonna try and hark back to the original

I think even bigger than that was the droid being the MacGuffin in both stories.

It wasn't until the clones that they had those... if the republic split from the empire, that makes sense.

It's starting to seem like you don't know much about the old movies. Some of your questions are answered there.

The movie makes it sound as if there are 3 factions now. The Republic, Resistance, and First Order.

I find it crazy that the resistance would take on the star killer with just X-wings, and only a small squadron at best, when it took the entire rebel alliance fleet to take out the death star (much smaller size.)

Theres a crazy theory on her origins on the Star Wars reddit that she could be a descendent of Palpatine based on her fighting style with lightsaber jabs

I didn't like 3P0 still. Never have.

And I think they could have done R2D2 better. Sleeping beauty until just the right moment? Really?

And so with the offspring of the light and dark forces, the story ultimately becomes about the choices they make. Their destiny is not predetermined by their parents.

I loved the scene where he tries to control her mind and she realizes what she is.

Reminded me of when Paul, Leto, or Teg would go through the agony in Dune.

They mentioned in the base that they couldn't take it on "without the republic fleet" which was, I assume, destroyed in the first attack.

If the republic and the first order each control portions of the old empire, the resistance is the population within the area controlled by the order that resists the order, and is supported in their effort by the republic.

But the republic government and fleet were destroyed by Star killer base, so they're in their own now.

Seems like minutia to delineate the origins of the Resistance and the Order more than saying they came out of the Rebels and the Empire.
That was another question I had. Was the Rebel Alliance so bad at governing that the Empire sprung back up inside of two generations?

I think it's problems are the same issues a lot of big tentpole franchises have these days, namely: too many characters

Were there really? All of the new characters survived, so we should get plenty of time to spend with them and know them. I just think it was Hux and Phasma we didn't get enough time with. I think all the others pass the Plinkett test. Just give us another episode or two before deciding there are too many characters.

Aside from when they were about to attack Starkiller Base, I never got that feeling.

I don't think this either. They really dove into the Force in this movie and how it affected the characters, particularly Kylo and Rey. Even over the Original Trilogy, you could see the light and dark sides coming into conflict and battling one another. They did a logical evolution in the Force that didn't involve lightsabers, lightning, and jumping. That's all the prequels showed us the Force was about, while here we got it was a clear mindset that is constantly at war.

Yeah, there were references, but there was plenty of new stuff.

Think about it.

At the end of ROTJ, all we know is the Death Star is destroyed, Palpatine is gone, and Vader is gone.

That doesn't explain the rest of the governors or planets left as part of the Empire.
