Anyone know anything about the supreme chancellor? How did he come to power and who is he exactly? Wish they would have explained that

There are rumors that it's Plagueis. Palpatine's mentor who he said he killed.

I already did explain it in another thread in much greater detail. But in general, I think the pacing and development for Boyega and Issac was lacking. I also think we were cheated out of some scenarios. Kylo Ren deciding he didn't need BB88 or Han going light speed through the shield felt very very very forced to me.

The scene with Ren and Han was fricking heartbreaking. Wonderful acting all the way around. Rey vs Ren though

I thought it was just different enough for ANH to keep me on my toes. JJ has indeed done it. Fricking amazing. Can't wait to see where Rian Johnson takes the story. I'm so pumped

Saying shite like the script held the movie back isn't legit criticism. It's weak vague sauce.

Loved it, better than what I thought it would be. Good mix of humor and action. I like how they slowly introduced a lot of the older characters in and didn't throw them in too quickly.

Rename this the "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" Official Discussion Thread so we can try to keep it in one place.

Only a few minor complaints for me. Mainly just the whole Maz stuff at the Castle. That entire 20 minutes was weak compared to the rest but was still good enough to keep me going. Just dragged slightly. Loved the characters. Dialogue was solid.

Only other part I didn't like was Starkiller base being destroyed. Other than that it was awesome

We were put right in the middle of those two character arcs. So that's fair. But you can't be given background to everything. It's 30 years later.

And I didn't think Ren leaving BB8 was out of place. Went perfectly.

The light speed through the shield was definitely a plot device. No argument there.

I agree and thought it was awesome. The scene with Han and Kylo on the bridge was fantastic and JJ symbolizing Kylo's battle between the two sides of the force with light was awesome. Right light behind one shoulder and blue light behind the other was obviously a subtle way of doing the angel and devil thing.

I knew when Han went out onto the bridge there was a good chance he didn't walk off because of Harrison Ford's reluctance to play the character but up until the sunlight went out I didn't know what was going to happen.

But I don't understand why some are complaining it was similar to New Hope. Yea there are similarities but the only plot point that is the same is that they blow up the super sized Death Star at the end. It was the first movie so to connect to fans they are gonna try and hark back to the original

Flawed but fun. I think it's problems are the same issues a lot of big tentpole franchises have these days, namely: too many characters, always trying to get the the next scene as fast as possible, and relying a little too much on references to previous movies/other media instead of developing a unique lore for the movie you're making.

Still enjoyed it.

I don't mind spoilers and shite and i read the plot and it sounds exactly like a new hope. based on what people have been saying tho it sounds like it is legit.

I think Abrams took the same approach with Star Trek.

It works as something to build on.

I don't expect to get bogged down in minutia but I wouldn't mind if the movie had taken its time more on developing stuff. So many questions that could have been answered and instead, we get a silly scene with dumb looking tentacle monsters. I felt like the movie was a little ADD
