They really dropped the ball on antagonist development, inexcusable too with a resource like Elba

In my opinion they should have kept it as a species that really pushed back against the Federation and introduced a new swarming race.

I got why they chose this species for the plot....but there are so many other ones to choose from...it really was the weakest part of the movie.

Other then that though beyond flat out rocked. Really should go a long way of getting rid of the distaste that was left after Into Darkness.

Is this a spoiler acceptable thread?

I liked the shot outs to Star Trek : Enterprise, which could have been a great show if not for the constant time travel.
I do think Elba should have had more build up, but it was an excellent movie all around and had more of a true Star Trek, "we are explores first" feel to it.

Yorktown was impressive, like the Star Trek death star, or rather Peace Star.
Even why they played Beastie Boys in the trailer made sense. I also like Public Enemy "fight the power" playing and Scott saying "classical music, a little old for my taste"

The female lead was a good character. It was the best of the new Star Trek in my opinion.

yeah, but they had the 1701-A almost finished.

Trekkies wasn't the Franklin a Baton Rouge class ship? Or maybe a later franklin. I know in original timeline Kirk's first command as a old Baton Rouge class ship.

Though the picture of the original crew (ST V) put a lump in my throat.

That was a good scene, I wonder if Spock saw that and was thinking "damn Uhura isn't going to age well and Scottie gets fat.... Me and Sulu look good though"

only weakness was the villain.. very poor development and most of the time your like.. "and his motivation is ????" So among the worst villains. Id rate V-Ger better than Krall.

He was a General for United Earth against the Xindi and Romulans (Earth Romulan War ; Xindi destruction of Florida) When United Earth chartered Star Fleet with the Andorians and the Tellurites he was made a "peace time" captain. After being marooned on a planet he went mad and decided he would take revenge on Starfleet who he hated, for changing the war like ways of humans.

Ok, just saw it. I know this post is going to be downvoted as hell for no real reason, but I loved this movie. It was the best of the new Star Trek movies, and kudos to Simon Pegg. I thought it was going to be terrible due to the major production issues with this, but Simon Pegg really pulled it together and showed he's a great filmmaker in a chaotic production. I really liked everything about it.

Now please continue to downvote me for no reason and let this board go to hell through a SJW reactionary circle jerk.

I'll take your downvotes. I like it better than Star Wars VII.

Okay, good, as long as there's gayness in Star Trek, which was badly, crucially needed. I mean, who cares if the gay guy who played the original Sulu thinks it's a stupid idea? We need way more gayness and we need it right now.

I'm trying to get my kids into the sci-fi genre unlike my childhood.. They enjoy the superheroe movies but since I want to see this, I'm curious to thoughts.. I don't mind language and violence issues in these style movies and I only care about sexual aspects when it comes to these movies.. Not innuendo but blatant inappropriate shite for an 11 year old... Thoughts?

Just got out of this.

I remember when into darkness came out and a lot of people called me a fricking idiot for saying that starfleet should adopt the dreadnought class as its new flagship class and put the crew of the enterprise into a new USS Vengeance. Looks like I was right when I said that when you send a starship out there with the kind of weaponry and ordinance the Enterprise has, it's practically a sitting duck.

The USS Vengeance should've replaced the Enterprise for missions that far and deep out into space. You just can't take that risk of something happening to them and leave them with pedestrian weaponry.

The Dreadnought class had a shite ton of new technology that would protect the crew of itself, the federation and had a shite ton of more working space.

They can explore the universe and make contract with new people but when shite hits the fan, they could breathe more easier knowing they've got a fighting chance with this bad arse battleship....

That's a pretty in depth analysis of shite that doesn't exist

Appreciate the fanhood. Makes for good reading.

Sending the Enterprise out there in its current state and arsenal is like our military sending a out a regular open air jeep with american civilian police officers on it and nothing else into Syria.

did the swarm remind anyone else of the one in Ender's Game?

also, if they had Admiral Marcus's militarized star shipx they'd run through that swarm with no problem.
