Pegg's influence on the humor is noticeable.

I know that, based on at least 2 extended diatribes on here, and scores of smaller ones, everyone expects me to be 100% negative on this franchise, 100% of the time.

I'll give credit - insofar as I can do so - because I'm, by nature, a logical, analytical and fair guy (IMHO). Pegg and Urban, of those involved with this flavor of "Star Trek" - appear to be fans and invested in some of the spirit of the original Star Trek. After all, it wasn't their decision to turn Star Trek into one-dimensional characters who are one-note jokes and mere excuses for fast, random action to entertain a largely millennial (or of that mindset) audience, with neither the patience nor critical thinking skills required to enjoy thought-provoking, legitimate science fiction. It wasn't Pegg that decided to make Kirk and Spock, (you know - the "protagonists" of Star Trek) into 2 of the most unlikeable sons a bitches to ever appear in the Star Trek universe. It wasn't Pegg's decision (although he did assent) to have Scotty get caught in a tube like some futuristic Augustus Gloop.

So, that out of the way, I read a disturbing report about this current film - Pegg had submitted an early script draft that was rejected by the suits for being "too Star Trekky."

That was all I needed to know to conclude that they really didn't want my business. That want the generic action film fan, and just brand the stuff Star Trek.

Y'all enjoy!

I liked it. It's definitely the best of the Nu-Trek movies.

There's some real humor in this one. And the stakes are more along the lines of the original series, which I like.

I have to admit, I enjoyed the movie a lot more than Part 2 or the first one. Sure it's absurd but that is Star Trek in a nut shell.

I do like the FU it gave to Sci Fi in general and how a Star Base REALLY look like. The little water down one form the T.V series could be seen as place holders.

I like how the show the Defensive size of the Federation, the strength of the federation it's ingenuity and it's every day life.

The interaction was find, I was kind of skeptical about the new Alien girl who seem weird and fake as hell but she ended up being my favorite character.

The ending sequences is par for the Course in Star Trek rather than taking Classical music they use something else. That also added a human element for me.

Over all 8/10.

- 2 for the Enterprise getting totaled again.

Oh on another note, at least we get to see the Enterprise put up SOME sort of a fight this time.

A young Tom Hardy played the villain in Star Trek Nemesis. A bright spot to that movie.

It was almost Arthur C. Clarkian in its design.

My neighbor who is a die hard movie nerd said with the very strong Thursday numbers Star Trek will easily do $80+ million this weekend. I saw it this morning.. was a LOT better than Into Darkness and definitely more fun. This is a film audiences can go for right now and I think it will have a very strong second week around $50 million.

That was a highlight of the film for sure. MINOR SPOILER ALERT:

Though the picture of the original crew (ST V) put a lump in my throat.

only weakness was the villain.. very poor development and most of the time your like.. "and his motivation is ????" So among the worst villains. Id rate V-Ger better than Krall.

This is correct, his motivation would only make sense for people who LIKED the Enterprise T.V series. M.A.C.O Xindi and Romulan War is all reference to that series. So those that seen the T.V series will get it, the rest of the audience were probably scratching their heads on... "What about it?"

Although I was surprise to see it was the guy from Pacfic Rim, I have expected him to say. " We will fight the monsters at our door! Today we are canceling the apocalypse!"

In my opinion they should have kept it as a species that really pushed back against the Federation and introduced a new swarming race.

agreed... a decent new threat in this new timeline which is obviously a LOT more advanced than the Prime timeline. I mean how freaking long would it take to build Yorktown... which lets be honest was a direct ripoff of Guardians of the Galaxy.

I saw it today and I loved it. There were 3 times I got chills from the surprise and awe of the moment. That never happens. I don't want to spoil anything but the use of a certain song is done perfectly and it syncs with what is going on the screen. That part was extremely well done and had me wanting to stand up and cheer. I haven't enjoyed a movie this much in a long time.

I like movies like this, but this one was pretty "meh" for me. I totally agree with the above posters that the motivation for the villain was extremely weak, so much so that I kept wondering about it throughout the movie.

I enjoyed it highly. There were some absurd moments that the filmmakers were hoping would be overlooked, like Jayla jumping tp meet Kirk in the badass be jump, despite not necessarily even being famiar with the tech and certainly not "in" on kirks plan.

Spoiler: why were the "bees" just disintegrating from the radio interference? They made it seem like they would all start running into each other and blow up, but we know that the swarm ships can be controlled manually. It was highly entertaining visually, but didn't make a whole lot of sense imo
