There are some insane things being said in this thread.

First, acting like Sandler has always been a joke. He has made some incredible comedies. Now granted, some of those comedies were when I was 14-24 in the height of my immaturity (although, I still think I'm there), but comedic masterpieces for most guys.

Second, who really gives a frick about product placement? I've never understood why people care. Does it really ruin a movie to say someone is going to eat at Popeyes? It's their job to make money. If a company wants to advertise and pay millions in a movie for a 30 second scene, I see no harm. I have a friend who hated Secret Life of Walter Mitty solely because they talked about Papa Johns and Cinnabon.

Third, I would say the majority of people in this thread have not seen Pixels. I haven't even seen it. But I also know that critics fricking suck most the time. And if one or two critics hate on a movie, many follow because they don't want to look dumb. Critics said Inside Out was one of the best animated movies ever..and I fricking hated it. So who cares about critics. If a movie looks interesting, go see it...if it looks like shite, wait til it comes on cable.

Damn, really? I thought it was fantastic.

But generally speaking, I agree with your post...most of the time, critics have zero effect on my seeing a movie or not. And I generally lean opposite of the critics anyway, so if anything, their negative/positive reviews could make me see it anyway/avoid it.

Critics hated "Last Action Hero". Enough said.

Ok, I exaggerated. Didn't hate it by any means, just was way way deeper than I was anticipating. Ended up crying and shite at the end...mentally I was not prepared. I thought it was an excellent plot, great meaning, but wasn't really funny and didn't really make me feel good. And that's sort of what I was hoping it was going to be.

When the credits rolled and they showed inside everyone's brain, that was funny stuff.

That's just the budget of the film, but doesn't include the marketing costs.

First off, hollywood accounting is so skewed and slanted that no one really knows except for a few privy.

Marketing is one of the biggest expenses for a movie. why wouldn't the be included in that budget number?
Marketing is always included in the budget for a film or you just throwing that against the wall?

I mean real talk everyone could see this was a turd from a million miles away. I couldn't believe people here were throwing out buzzwords like "creative" and "original" in the "what do you think of Pixels" threads. Happy Madison schlock in all its (un)glory.

I'm going to go back and bump the thread where the goons on here downvoted me and laughed when I said this looked like one of the worst movies of all time.

But it's not even close to being one of the worst movies of all time. It's not even a bad movie.

Masterpieces...they can't all be gold can they?

The problem is its been 10 years since I enjoyed a Sandler movie, and that was The Longest Yard, which shouldn't count since its a remake.

Since then its been 10 years of awful films

It was GOD AWFUL. My theater chuckled a few times and it was half full.

To each his own. I'm not an Adam Sandler fan but I found this movie to be funny. And there was a good bit of laughter in the theatre I was in.

Then again, those old video games hold some nostalgia for me so that helped.

That's because you grew up and he doesn't make movies for you anymore.

Most of Sandler's shite is made directly for kids and families. It's no longer the stupid, idiotic, college humor that we all loved (and still love).

So of course his movies won't appeal to you anymore, but that doesn't mean that they are shitty necessarily, and that's why they still make serious bank. shite, if anything, his "stupid humor" movies that most of us love never really made lots of money anyway.

That movie where the bed time stories come alive was a damn good kids movie.

Sadler hasn't been as terrible as these haters like to say.

It's the most underrated Sandler comedy. I laugh my balls off every time I watch it. It is so perfect on every level.

What about Chuck and Larry? That shite was funny.
Just Go with it? I enjoy this one too

isn't this just that episode of futurama where earth gets invaded by aliens from the planet nintendu-64 (donkey kong, space invaders, etc) and fry, an expert gamer, leads the defense?

I liked it too but Nick Swardson's character almost ruins the whole movie for me.
