Woody Boyd gets my vote too. He was a nice guy and a good bartender.

There are so many to choose from older shows. They used to write characters as more likeable and less flawed than they do now.

Trapper John from MASH
Thomas Magnum
Mary Tyler Moore
Captain Hogan from Hogan's Heroes

I don't watch too many of the newer sitcoms, but these guys are likeable:

Marshall and Allyson from How I Met Your Mother

If we're counting animated sitcoms, then Hank Hill, and it's not even close for me. Maybe Kitty from That 70's Show.

Sterling Archer

While I like him as a character, Sterling is a despicable man-child who is borderline loathed by everyone, including his own mother (although she's even worse than him and entirely responsible for how he turned out). I really don't think he qualifies.

Hell he was likeable as the "bad guy" in season 1

Barney Stinson was awesome excluding any time he was with or hung up on Robin

You are proving my point. Despite him being an utterly reprehensible human being, you just can't help but like him (see Al Bundy).

Marshall was a much more likable character to me. While Barney was always funny, he was a pretty terrible person.

Marshall would never do anything to hurt anyone.

Dewey and Hal both

The best Malcolm in the Middle episodes were ones where Hal and Dewey were collaborating

The way he took Lilly back and continually let that count walk all over him causes some resentment from me towards him
