FWIW, this is the 1996 film by Cronenberg and not the movie that won Best Picture at the Oscars.

Ahhhh... That makes more sense.

Yeah, I'm wondering how many people see the title Crash and think the crappy Oscar winner and not the brilliant Palme d'Or winner about people having sex in auto accidents.

I'm sure that's it

The Thin Red Line is > SPR.

SPR is no where close to Speilberg's best movie of the 90's and all time.

This is funny. His top 10 movies of the 90's. He lists 11 movies and one is in the 80's.

If only he didn't mention the film in the 80's....

He may be a genius, but this is an idiotic list.

no, i just have a different opinion. Now assuming some one is extremely pretentious because they don't agree with you is well, extremely pretentious.

"Crash" - Genuinely erotic, but also profoundly disturbing, beautifully controlled, and completely unconventional.

Yeah - that confused the hell out of me at first.

Bottle Rocket is Anderson's worst film

I like Bottle Rocket. I think Darjeeling is easily his worst. Rushmore is my favorite.

Maybe I need to give it another chance, but I didn't like The Thin Red Line at all. I turned it off after about an hour. It felt too fake. Maybe too many recognizable actors.

Without Goodfellas there is no Pulp Fiction.

Bottle Rocket is arguably his best film ...... it's true whimsical film making before had better Production Designers and more money to go all out. With Rushmore being a close second. It was an instant classic when I saw it in the empty theater on Essen lane in the mid 90's. Marty has probably screened 100x more films than all of us on this site combined, so his opinion counts for something.

I'm probably missing the thrust of your comment here. I assume it is just a preference for MS and/or dislike of QT? Surely you are not giving MS credit for any of the ideas or creating the genre?

RE: the MS list in the OP? I do like a lot of those films but as it turns out I like Roger Ebert's top ten of the 90s list a bit better:

quote:

.1 "Hoop Dreams"

2. "Pulp Fiction"

3. "GoodFellas"

4. "Fargo"

5. "Three Colors Trilogy": "Blue," "White," and "Red"

6. "Schindler's List"

7. "Breaking the Waves"

8. "Leaving Las Vegas"

9. "Malcolm X"

10. "JFK"

I don't really care for JFK and find Malcolm X and Goodfellas very good but not top ten worthy.

Hoop Dreams is a masterpiece. You have to give it a chance but I can't argue with it as #1 for the decade.

I don't love either movie even though I recognize the importance of the Thin Red Line and the opening war montage in SPR.

I can see why people who love either film would advocate for it fiercely. I can also see why people would dislike either film.

Fargo is a fine movie, but I prefer A Simple Plan in the 'crime gone awry in the frozen Midwest' genre. Much more of an emotional payoff.

Bad Lieutenant is the WORST film of the 90's.

Eyes Wide Shut was one of Kubrick's worst ever.

Bottle Rocket is a wonderful simple film, one of Wes Anderson's best, but not sure it belongs on this list either.

And picking Thin Red Line as the best film of the decade actually made me laugh out loud.

I don't think I could disagree with Scorsese more, but everyone is entitled to their own opinon.
