obably missing the thrust of your comment here. I assume it is just a preference for MS and/or dislike of QT?

It's neither. I enjoy Scorsese's work and Pulp Fiction is one of my all-time favorite films.

Surely you are not giving MS credit for any of the ideas or creating the genre?

Watch the scene at Miss DeVito's house and tell me you don't see the similarities between the dialogue in Goodfellas and Pulp Fiction. Also, the manner of violence is pretty similar.

I think the perspective of the films and the way that is reflected in the dialogue are fundamentally different. MS wants his audience to feel the discomfort and the violence. QT has more of a traditional pulp fiction feel and the violence and death are more removed from the viewer. The dialogue however is somewhat the opposite. The characters in pulp fiction are not amoral and it is the perspectives that gives them life worth watching on the screen.

The feel is very very different between teh two movies. The two directors draw from very different inspirations and sources IMO.

agreed. additionally, pulp fiction's biggest impact on cinema was the non linear timeline(QT had done it earlier with reservoir dogs but pulp fiction was his breakout movie). Goodfellas, although an all time great, is your run of the mill gangster narrative. Had scorcese directed resevoir dogs than you could definitely say without scorcese there is no tarantino/pulp fiction.

The Thin Red Line is > SPR.

Give me a freaking break.

SPR is no where close to Speilberg's best movie of the 90's and all time.

It's not the best movie of the 90s (Schindler's List is) but to say it's no where close to one of his best is really pushing it.

I know too much about WW II and Guadalcanal. The movie is writer/Hollywood stuff not realistic in any way. The Japanese soldiers sitting and crying on the hill, give me a break. Now if you like the way it is shot, the acting or cinematography run with it. I though prefer my war movies more centered in reality of what soldiers were like and their experiences, not dreaming of Tigers and chilling with villagers in the middle of combat.
