Maybe the part where Christian Shephard point blank tells Jack that some people died before him and some long after him. If they all died in the crash, they all die at the same time.

Yeah it's spelled out pretty clearly.

I'm out of my element here. I do know the last season was a mess

The island wasn't Purgatory. That's clearly spelled out in the end. The reason why some people think so is because it was a fan theory for years during earlier seasons. But the ending directly contradicted that theory, so it wasn't true.

You are. Everything on the island happened. They didnt pass through until the connection to someone else.

See, now I feel like you're screwing with everyone, because they specifically had Christian shepherd tell the audience that everything that happened on the island was real and the purgatory stuff was what happened once each character died and went there. It blows my freaking mind the amount of people that keep trying to make the "they died in the crash" argument

Lost is a good show, but it isn't the best tv series ever written. You may see it that way, but the majority of people do not.

I liked Lost, but it could be pretty convoluted at times. That's not a big knock on the show, as the atmosphere of confusion was clearly intentional, it just took me out of the story from time to time.

Now, this is clearly just my opinion, but The Wire is the most well written TV show in existence of which I am aware. However I won't claim to have seen every TV series ever, because come on man, really?

I liked Fringe slightly more.

I respect your opinion but I could not disagree more. That show is nothing but a typical cop show. Nothing that has not been done 100 times... Every part of it.

Great acting and I really enjoyed it but its just a souped up cop show.

I'm sorry, but The Wire is not "a typical cop show"

I mostly agree with you on Lost's greatness, but I cannot let this transgression slide. The Wire is arguably the greatest TV show of all time, and I will not allow it to be disparaged.

I don't think you got the point of The Wire. The shows goes through every aspect of the city of Baltimore and meticulously lays out the corruption therein. I have never seen such a well written series that intertwines every aspect of a city (Politics, law enforcement, the school system, the shipping industry, the drug trade, legal represntation) to one common theme. In the wire that is obviously symbolized by "the game."

No show has ever done this, much less 100 times

I totally get that and I really liked the show. It's no where near the best series for me. It's not even top 8 or 10.

I enjoyed the depth it goes but the overall show is still a cop show fighting inner city crime where it's main character is a drunk cop with family issues due to over work. I know that's a lean generalization but you get my point.

The Wire is without question a better written show than LOST. The Damon and Carlton would probably laugh at being compared to it.

As for shows I enjoyed watching, I put The Wire behind

Lost
Breaking Bad
Ray Donavin
GOT
Spartacus
Sopranos
Banshee
BOSS
Californication

I just did not connect with that series like others did here

Which is probably the best thought out premise and executed almost to perfection. However, even BB could get lazy with the storytelling at times, although it trended upwards pretty consistently. The acting, directing and writing was a 1-2-3 punch that a lot of shows can't match. Your GOAT dramas - starting with HBO's The Wire and The Sopranos (20 years ago, essentially) - set the table for all this and are still fine examples of it and GOAT candidates. It's no secret I'm a #TeamShield guy and find the show is a little underrated - partly because being on FX they couldn't go all ham with the language like The Sopranos and The Wire. But, LOST is polarizing in the same way that David Lynch's films are polarizing - and, as I understand it, LOST is:

quote:

a goddamn mess

Even though I've backed off Abrams (a little, and Jonathan Nolan as well after Season 1 of West World) - there is too much smoke for there not to be some fire. I've only seen snippets of LOST and it is definitely one of those shows that one cannot just drop into.
