Not to hijack this thread but is this NBC special a black only cast? I saw the ad for it and didn't see a single white person, doesn't really matter but I wondered if there was some special reason it was a minority only type of thing

I hate the Wizard of Oz.

I'll go you one better. I'm nearly 50 years old. I've never seen The Wizard of Oz. Not one single time. It seems like something I would hate, though.

It's fundamentally a children's fable. It's a great movie and a timeless classic. What's so dislikable about it? I can maybe understand not considering it a favorite, but actively disliking it is weird.

It's like saying you don't like Snow White, or that you hate the story of the t
Three Little Pigs.

It all seems quite appropriate given the context.

Did they even have tropes in 1939?

I have never liked it. Creepy. Uncomfortable. Interminable. Stupid ending.

What a great name for a guy that's a part of your smoking circle!
Was he older than most of your group, or just stuck in the 80's?

I thought it was an allegory about depression era America and the industrialization and urbanization of the average citizen.

He was 10 years older than me. Coolest guy in the world. He rocked his mullet and didn't care who laughed at it. I haven't seen him in years. Last time I saw him was at a gas station. He told me that Skid Row (or some other hair band, I can't remember) was playing that night and asked if I wanted to go. I couldn't, but I wish I would have.
