I have a confession to make and I don't think most will like it...

I hate the Wizard of Oz. I don't know why, but from the time I first watched it with my grandmother as a child, I never liked it. I tried watching it recently and it was the worst for me.

I don't like it either. The only people that do it seems are the people that grew up watching it as a kid

I think it's good and it also ironically brings back memories of my grandparents, but I can't say I have an overwhelming desire to watch it again.

Odd. I didn't know it was possible to be an adult who is even casually into any of:

b)classic rock
c)harebrained theories
d)drugs
and not have heard of it.

I just watched it 2 nights ago with my grandkids - it's not very good.
Pros:
--a staggering level of technical proficiency for the era - I can't imagine what audiences must have thought when they saw the special effects and the sets (and the color!)
--tons of memorable/quotable moments/lines
--the witch is just legit scary. it's the woman herself, because she is terrifying even just as a human
Cons:
--horrific "golden age of hollywood" style diction and overacting
--the plot - especially after they get to Emerald City, is just a total mess
--ridiculous use of tropes and one dimensional characters - e.g. the traveling salesman in Kansas
TL;DR - the movie is worth watching to get the pop culture highlights, but overall isn't that great
