Also, I still don't like Spiderman having a machine to shoot web out of his wrist
The only time Spider Man ever shot webs out of his physical wrists was the Tobey Maguire movies and some non cannon instances in the comics. It was an unnecessary and stupid change to the character.

but the fact that some kid could somehow invent some super strong string that apparently bundles up a 1000+ ft worth of "web" in a tiny 2 inch wrist "watch" looking thing is really dumb to me.
He's a genius. It's a comic book character.
I saw it last night. I don't see where all the negativity is coming from. I feel like this franchise has been unfairly judged by critics since the beginning when they deemed it "unnecessary" and said "we just saw this movie". As a casual movie goer I can see where they are coming from but as a fan of the comics, this reboot was needed. Raimi got it all wrong and the new ones have done a much better job portraying Spider Man. As far as the movie itself, I really enjoyed it outside of Jamie Foxx. I thought he was over the top corny and his character really served no purpose in advancing the plot. If Electro isn't in future plans for the Sinister Six, then I wish they would have used his screen time to further Peter and Harry's relationship or anything else. Overall, I thought it was the best representation of Spider Man we've seen so far.

First time I saw it, I hated it. On second viewing it got better. I would call it slightly better than the first. Though, I rated the first as mediocre. This new one is slightly better than mediocre.

Saw it enjoyed it. Rushed some things it seems but overall it was good.

I like the movie overall. My biggest complaint was when they first show Harry as the Green Goblin. I almost busted out laughing with how silly he looked.

I did too. That was pretty ridiculous.

I didn't like it.
I think Garfield did a good job with spiderman, but the directing was pretty bad. The scene where electro shows up in time square and the music mimmiks the voices in his head was just laughable.
I couldn't wait for the movie to end

SPOILERS
Saw it last night, loved. The opening scene where Spidey is falling and the back of his suit is rippling in the wind was breathtaking. I obviously have a minority opinion on this, but I thougt all of the characters seperate stories tied in quite well. The fight scenes were badass and the serious scenes were gripping. When Spidey was sitting there with Gwen in his arms it tugged at my heart, and my girlfriend cried like a baby. This was better than anything Raimi could dream of.

Just got back from this.
Let me start with this.
I have been reading Spiderman comic books since the early 70s. Yeah...I'm old.
Andrew Garfield IS Peter Parker.
He plays him exactly how I would expect him to be.
From the brooding Peter to the hysterical Spidey. I like the Maquire portrayal well enough, but I never really bought Maguire as Peter Parker.
Garfield however is a monster in the part....amazing.
Now on to the movie. I went in expecting this to be a shite-fest. TD as always gave me a negative view of it. SO negative I almost decided not to see it. What a fricking mistake that would have been.
The plot was tight. I was terrified they were going to frick this up like they did with number 3 in the original spiderman series with too many bad guys. They did not.
Electro, while not 100 true to the comics was pretty good as a bad guy. But GG, I can see him as the foil to Spidey for a long time to come.
EXACTLY AS IT SHOULD BE.
and for the exact reasons you'd expect.
I still think this summer's Captain America is the best "super hero" movie I have seen in years. The Amazing Spiderman does deserve your popcorn money.
Ignore the critics...they are wrong.
Just got back with my family...loved it. Of course, I really enjoyed the first one for the most part. Funny thing, Peter/Spidey and Gwen have been the best parts of both movies BY FAR for me, and I really enjoyed that here.
And yeah...Garfield is about as well cast in his role as RDJ is as Tony Stark. The guy is killing it and it's fun to watch.

These two sentences just sounds like one of them is complete BS. You claim to be a very old fan, but then say you would let a messageboard decide if you would see a movie that you have been a long time fan of the source material. I don't care how bad the reviews were for a Spider-man movie anywhere on the internet, I would still see it. Hell I would even go see one if I knew guaranteed it was worse than Raimi 3.

Movie was good. Much improved from the first. It is what it was supposed to be a popcorn flick with loads of action. Foxx was fine as Electro. But Garfield is a much better and more believable Peter Parker than wimpy Toby Maquire.

Just got out: Garfield is a phenomenal Peter Parker and spider-man. He owns the role as much as RDJ does stark/iron man. Unfortunately Foxx was horrible, which is nothing new for him. Electro and Harry both were very poorly done. They really dragged the movie down in every scene in which they appeared. These villains were no better than spidey 3's. It's too bad the best spider-man villain yet shared a movie with Tobey maguire. Put Garfield in the first spider-man 2 and that would have been a great spider-man movie.

About as bad as Tobey.
