Further more in the first Raimi film when they took one of the most defining moments in Peter Parker's life, the death of Gwen Stacey by the Goblin and turned it into a spidey saves everyone scene with MJ it really showed their lack of commitment to delving into what makes Peter who he is. Realizing there is no way you can kill MJ they should have never shot that scene

I am not a big fan of the Raimi ones. I am more or less over Sony having Spider-man at this point and wish Marvel had it.
I agree on Gwen Stacy being left out of the original series until that shite part in 3, one of the biggest flaws before they really went to town in the 3rd one.

I thought the movie was good but had it's bad parts too. I laughed at the comically large padlock on the power grid's override switch.
Garfield is the perfect Peter/Spider-Man

Just got back from this.
Let me start with this.
I have been reading Spiderman comic books since the early 70s. Yeah...I'm old.
Andrew Garfield IS Peter Parker.
He plays him exactly how I would expect him to be.
From the brooding Peter to the hysterical Spidey. I like the Maquire portrayal well enough, but I never really bought Maguire as Peter Parker.
Garfield however is a monster in the part....amazing.
Now on to the movie. I went in expecting this to be a shite-fest. TD as always gave me a negative view of it. SO negative I almost decided not to see it. What a fricking mistake that would have been.
The plot was tight. I was terrified they were going to frick this up like they did with number 3 in the original spiderman series with too many bad guys. They did not.
Electro, while not 100 true to the comics was pretty good as a bad guy. But GG, I can see him as the foil to Spidey for a long time to come.
EXACTLY AS IT SHOULD BE.
and for the exact reasons you'd expect.
I still think this summer's Captain America is the best "super hero" movie I have seen in years. The Amazing Spiderman does deserve your popcorn money.
Ignore the critics...they are wrong.

Even though I didn't really like the first one, I have to admit Garfield is absolutely perfect as Peter Parker. Tobey McGuire was simply a bad choice to portray him, but Garfield seems born for the part.

Yup.
I kept thinking as I watch the movie that this movie is suppose to be a shite fest. But it wasn't. Perhaps his portrayal of Peter Parker helped some crappy writing. Either way. The guy really was born to play the role.
I seriously went expecting to hate it, I had a couple hours to kill this afternoon.
I came away really enjoying it.
See it.

@Dam Guide - Yep

I just got out from seeing it and I enjoyed it very much. I don't get into the whole does it stay true to the comics deal. I mean yea they should to an extent but there's so many different adaptations just in the comics that I simply don't care about that.
Don't get the hate for this movie. Great visual effects. Garfield is outstanding as Spidey. I truly laughed at certain points. But it still had a little bit of an edge and dark side to it as well.
I'm not really understanding the critique that it had too many villains either. There's Electro, whose story is easily tied into Spider-Man's. Then there is Harry, whose story also is tied in nicely. Rhino is just an opening scene that they did a good job of tying back into the story later on.
Definitely worth it to go catch it in the theaters. Great popcorn flick
Don't let anybody on here talk you out of going because you will be missing out

saw this tonight. Thought it was terrible. Found myself wishing it would have ended 45 minutes earlier.

Movie was entertaining for sure. Just saw it myself. The only thing I disliked about it was the huge amounts of CGI and animation. I understand you have to do it for this type of film but I think whoever did it did a terrible job. Many of the parts don't even look remotely real. Literally looks like a cartoon out there.
Also, I still don't like Spiderman having a machine to shoot web out of his wrist. It's more realistic than him shooting it out of his wrist, I suppose, but the fact that some kid could somehow invent some super strong string that apparently bundles up a 1000+ ft worth of "web" in a tiny 2 inch wrist "watch" looking thing is really dumb to me.
Not trying to hate on the movie, it was entertaining. Just a few things that bothered me!

It was average at best but I agree with what everyone has been saying. Andrew Garfield is Peter Parker and blows Tobey Maguire's portrayal of the character right out of the water. Both Garfield and Emma Stone had amazing chemistry. I just wish the rest of it could have been as good. Jamie Foxx was mediocre as Electro and I really didn't care for Dane DeHaan as Harry Osborn.
I'd give the movie an overall score of C+.
ETA: Was anyone else as horrified as I was by Paul Giamatti's performance? I found myself cringing at every little snippet of dialogue he spoke. It's easily the worst performance from a mainstream movie thus far in 2014.

Took my boys to see it. I come away thinking this was supposed to be the final spiderman movie before Stan Lee passes away.
Just the vibe I got.

Does this guy randomly through himself into every superhero movie? Seems like he always makes a random part with him in it that doesn't even go along with whats going on.

Well, him being the creator kind of allows it.

Well obviously. Just seems odd. He doesn't even work his way into a scene. He is always just some guy in the crowd or walking around but they zoom in on his face for no apparent reason.
Quentin Tarintino does similar things but he at least works his roll into a scene. He gets murdered or something

I thought it was a good movie. 3.5 stars

They have tried to meld pieces of the old Spider-Man universe with the newer ultimate universe. In the Ultimate universe I think they delved more into his parents history. I also think in that universe electro was more pure electricity than running around in green tights with a mask that looks like the sun.
I could be wrong as I never really got into the ultimate universe but that seems to me what they have done.

Well, he'll be in at least 3 movies this year.

The movie is not shite like some people are saying. It's an enjoyable summer movie. The Peter Parker/Gwen Stacy stuff was annoying at times, but the opening action scene was fantastic. 7/10 overall.
