Thank you so much for saying this. I just came back from watching the movie tonight, and I thought it was just a spectacular (pun intended) Spider-Man movie.

If people took the time to lurk on other user communities like Reddit they'd realize that this movie is actually very well received. TD.com can tend to be overwhelmingly negative/elitist at times.

I for one am very easily pleased when it comes to super hero movies.

I hate it when people point out flaws in them cause my outlook is "you're watching a movie about SUPER HEROES" the entire movie is a flaw cause none are ever realistic.

So when I go and see this this weekend I'm sure I'll enjoy the shite out of it. Like i do all other super hero movies. Cause I don't go to movies to bitch and complain and point out why it sucks. I go to movies to enjoy myself and relax a little.

If it sucks so bad go to Hollywood and write up your own script for a Spider-Man movie and go get paid, cause I'm sure you can do it better than the current people

Just saw it. I enjoyed it. I love the faithfulness to the comics.

It's not faithful at all, it's a new take.

I don't consider this a reason why it is bad though, I like new takes on older stories. Rhino didn't bother me as well, he was just a setup piece for another movie, almost consider it an easter egg scene at the end. I do enjoy Garfield as Spidey as well. This movie definitely had potential and you can see that in some scenes that are really good, as I said before they are just surrounded by crap that make the film overall not very good. Give it a bit and watch it again, this one isn't going to hold up well at all. It's still new and shiny right now.

This is dumb, people can have negative opinions and not have the ability to surpass the work that was done. I mean a lot of people couldn't go out and build a better car than a Yugo, but that still doesn't mean the car is not a big piece of shite.

If everyone thought exactly the same thing, this place would be extremely boring.

but as time went on it became clear Nolan was the worst thing that could happen to comic book movies

oddly enough, I came here to agree with the original statement.. but actually, I don't agree with the original statement. When I actually think about it, the Nolan Batmans have basically been stuck in their own universe, and we will never see a super hero movie franchise similar to it again.

eh, maybe your new Spider Man movie had "some" inspiration from them, but honestly the first movie was very true to the comics, without borrowing anything from The Dark Knight franchise - they just made the mistake of going the sinister six route this time, which is stolen from the marvel studio franchise, not the Dark Knight.

The X-Men movies, nope, the marvel movies, nope, Superman? Maybe a little, but it's freakin' Superman, you have to try and make him more human nowadays or it's lost on an American audience, who really wants to watch a god fighting ants?

Never said that. I said explore other avenues for this particular movie as this board has already proven to be overly critical of this movie. Basically, just want people to enjoy the movie and look around if people's opinions of it on message boards mean anything if they're on the fence.

You said pretty much exactly that...

Anyone that hasn't seen it should throw all the M/TV "Film Majors" opinions out the window. Don't deprive yourself of an enjoyable movie.

Hell you even attacked us for having a negative opinion with the condescending "film majors" bit. Why is it so bad for someone else to have a negative opinion of a movie that you would have to go to that level? I have no issue with you enjoying the movie. I enjoy a lot of movies you probably think are awful.

Because the responses in this thread have been overwhelmingly negative for the most part, which is a stark contrast to most Spidey fans' reactions. I'm just trying to balance the playing field for that that take MTV board opinions into consideration. I offered very little analysis of the movie on purpose, hoping that people go see it and form their OWN opinions. Going into a movie expecting it to suck will change how you enjoy the movie. Hell, I went in with lower expectations because of the SM3 mess, and it ended up being an entirely different movie. I'm hardly trying to invalidate the opinions of others, just stating that the views of the MTV board are very different from other medians.

Normally, I wouldn't bother, but between the baffling critic reviews (I am not alone in that opinion btw) and the negative opinions here, people could feasibly think that this movie does indeed suck if that's what they pay attention to.

I think you are wrong. Spidey fans I know that are heavy comic readers hated this movie overwhelmingly and I am seeing a ton of negative reaction to it on reddit as well. The critic reviews are not that baffling at all. You went to a hyped up midnight screening and still coming off that high. Give it some time and sit and watch it again. The critics points are very valid.

I had the opportunity to see this movie prior to a lot of the reviews. I have been sitting on my review for over two weeks. I wasn't influenced by rotten tomatoes or a hyped up first showing and still came away with this opinion.

I see TD more as a place to discuss the movie with people who already have seen it than to influence other's decisions to see or not see the movie. That's why I post here, it's fun to get opinions on what people watch, not come in here and hype up a movie to get people to see it or knock it down to make people not see it. I fully expect everyone that views this thread will most likely see it in some form or fashion if they haven't already.

And a lot of the movie does suck...

I guess I'm just less jaded when it comes to the superhero movies as I've read none of them. Whether it stays true to the comics or not means nothing to me. The movie was engaging. There weren't nearly as many plot holes with the Electro/Harry characters portrayed on screen as people mention. A lot of complaining comes from the lack of adaptation from the comics.

Out of curiosity, did you enjoy any of the Raimi Spidey's more than this one or think Tobey's Spidey even touches Garfield's?

I no longer worry about staying true to comics as long as it delivers a good story. I don't feel like this one did, I feel like it tried to force about 7 or 8 really good stories into one movie, if they would of focused on 2 or 3 of those story arcs and getting into a little better detail and flush out the story a little more, the movie would of been great. There are times in this one where they do slow it down and the movie has flashes of brilliance. I feel like this one was a wasted opportunity because of forcing a much larger universe to compete with Marvel movies.

I would say I like Raimi 1 and 2 better overall in comparison to these new 2, but prefer Garfield as spidey in comparison to Tobey. I agree with what a lot of what was said about Garfield's Spidey earlier in this thread.

In some ways, in others it suffers similar problems, but I don't think you can get any worse than emo peter.

I saw it last weekend. It was okay. Definitely not on par with superman or captain America.

But it was better than the Toby maguire spider series.

I'll say again, I have been a mostly regular Spider-Man reader dating back to the early 1990s, and I thought the movie was not only good, but also a faithful amalgamation of various versions if the Spidey mythos.

Just saw it and I liked it. Not going to debate where it stands in spidey lore because I personally don't hold Spider-Man 2 up on a pedestal as some holy grail of spider-man movies.

Everyone always talks about the greatness that is that movie yet for me growing up reading the comics all that movie really did a good job at was portraying Doc Ock.

When you start talking plot elements the whole I am losing my powers because I have so much emotional baggage is horse shite. Peter Parker carries the weight of the world and the burden of many deaths around him and that drives him to be something greater. To think some emotional baggage about MJ and Uncle Ben could make him lose his powers is a slap in the face of one of the best crafted characters in all of comics.
