I really thought after last season's finale that he'd get on the ball and finish the next book before this season.
Seriously bums me out that he won't be the one to reveal where his world is headed to all of us that love it so much. I know he's involved and gave them the broad strokes, but the show is their baby, and it's going to be hard going back and reading his version in his words after already having a picture in my head about how the big moments look.
I'm pretty good about keeping the two mediums separated, but it's much easier giving a screen adaptation of a book the benefit of the doubt imo given the constraints on a visual medium.
This is just going to be weird.
It'll feel like someone going back and writing a novel as an adaptation of a film.

The red priestess was a casting call from the leaked casting calls a couple months ago.
Think she's supposed to be a huge "Dany is AA" type of fanatic.
I don't see them keeping both of them around as main characters so that could smell trouble for Melisandre

So guys, at what point is the transition from Hodor to reader made? I've seen the whole series, but started reading recently and just finished the first book.

I don't know. I could see them keeping them both around for a little while. The new one pimping Dany as AA, and Mel pimping John as AA.
