Judd Nelson was a strong douche bag in that film, also in St. Elmo's Fire. Two very different types of douche bags, but douchey none the less.

Think I disagree with definition here.
Judd Nelson was an a-hole as was Bill Murray for part of Groundhog day. To me that is an entirely different category.

Incorrect. The diamond earing Judd Nelson puts in his ear at the end of the Breakfast Club may go down as one of the most douchelike scenes in the history of cinema followed by the extremely lame fist in the sky as the credits were ROLLING. Couple that with the fact he was about 30 while playing a teenager and it all equals out to a pretty douchey character.

you are right, the lines are getting a bit blurry here. I think we need to stick to antagonistic characters that the audience is supposed to dislike.

Just reading through this thread, and realized that "Die Hard" contains not one, not two, but three douchebags. Paul Gleason, William Atherton, and Harry Ellis (Hart Bochner). Wow.
It's arguably THE douchebag movie of all time. The only one missing is Zabka. I guess he wasn't available.

you know most of the films and characters we are mentioning are from the 80's and early 90's. Are the movies today missing great newly defined douche bags, or have we overlooked some.
