Micheal Douglas is a fantastic older douchebag that always cheats on some woman and pays a terrible price.

That is the first person who popped in my head when I read the title of this thread.

Even though he wasn't a douche bag the entire movie, but the one guy who popped in my head is the wuss in Saving Private Ryan who let that guy get stabbed on the stairs by the german soldier towards the end of the movie.

How was he a douchebag in Stripes? He was a loveable ne'erdowell. He was 10 times the douchebag in Kingpin.

I was thinking more of the first part of the movie. Not really the same thing as previous actors mentioned, you are correct.

that douche bag did have some staying power in many sequels.

James Woods plays a strong douche bag in Casino. He was a douche in some other movie with Melanie Griffith about drugs also. A list douche bag.

that guy is clearly a douche bag, but I think he does not fit into the category of actor portraying a douche bag.

Paul Gleason might be the overall winner:

1. Breakfast Club
2. Die Hard
3. In Real life

I think that guy certainly cornered the market on principal douchebags in a single performance.
