Are movie production companies over-saturating the market with superhero flicks?

I don't mind one way or the other where movie production companies spend their time/money on films but it seemed to me that through the 2000s, and continuing, that we have seen an age of superhero movies, regardless of quality, hit the big screen than we ever have before (I know this isn't a novel thought) but my question is whether this is a good thing or an over-saturation of the market based on production companies realizing no matter what the story is, people will pay to watch.
It teeters on the edge of disrespecting your consumer, in my opinion, because they know superhero flicks sell and they will continue to just push out whatever they can to make a quick buck and, we all know, they have ungodly amounts of material to pull from (i.e. comic books/characters).
I used this generic website
Superhero Movie List
to compile a list and this is what I found:
I'm sure there's some on this list, specifically the future, that haven't been announced or aren't updated but this is just from what I've read.

quote:
1990 - 1999
14 superhero movies released
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles had 2 releases in this time period, Batman had 3
2000 to current:
48 superhero movies released
X-Men (and spin-offs) lead list at 7, Spiderman at 5, Batman at 4, Iron-Man at 3
Just for comparison sake, from 1990-1999 (9 years) there were 14 superhero movies made, as stated; from 2000 to 2009 there were 28 made.
Future (next 3 years):
19 scheduled for release
I'm sure there's some on this list, specifically the future, that haven't been announced or aren't updated but this is just from what I've read.

Not as much as these same exact posts are over-saturating this board.

they're putting quality film makers and actors behind them. They aren't just putting out dog shite because people mindlessly go see them. For the most part, they've made for good movies.

Although it's getting old, kids will continue to flock to these movies for the foreseeable future. I don't see it playing out for a while, not until it's gotten so used up and ridiculous that even kids abandon it.

I don't think it is over saturated. But only because they are tying them closely together like comic books. They are all building towards something and playing off of each other. This means I'm more invested. If it was just a bunch of random comic book movies that weren't really connected is probably be a little more burnt out.

Are superhero movies still killing it at the box office and being critically acclaimed?
They are? I guess the answer is no then

as long as the narrative of the universes advances, no.
Fox has no real structure to their movies. Each movie is made without thinking about the next one.
The MCU has some bumps, but at least they are doing a proper event.
DC looks like they are doing the same thing.

One encapsulates 10 years, the other encapsulates 15 years with a fad in 1) superheroes and 2) the technology to make such films work (and the money to back them for future films.

No. Comic book fans like myself see loving this. I'm already excited about Summer 2017.
You don't have to go. And they're putting big named actors and proven directors behind these movies.

Absolutely. Superhero movies completely replaced action movies, for the most part, somewhere around 2006.

This.
And as far is the studios are concerned, have you ever heard the phrase "Run it til they stop it"?
The studios have.

I thought so about five years ago or so but I've actually been enjoying most of the recent comic flicks.
That said I'm even higher on the comic tv shows and I wouldn't be upset at all if all the money for comic movies was redirected to tv shows whose serialized format works better for comics.

I feel like they're over saturating the market with movies in general. It seems like every month there's a new movie out about something with some actors in it. It's just too much, I can't keep up. Two, maybe three movies a year that's all we need.

This is true. Superhero movies and Science Fiction Action films have pretty much taken over for gritty action movies.
Which is the ONLY thing sad about the superhero movie craze. I want a proper, non-Vin Diesel, balls to the wall action film about some grizzled cop or soldier. (Granted, Jack Reacher and John Wick were both solid.)

This is the key difference. Think of other big movements in film, 70-80s Slasher Films, 80s Action Movies, etc.
In some cases, the results aren't really A+ quality (I mean I like Sleepaway Camp for what it is, but come on).
