Sumlin was Coog High/OU/Purdue but not an Aggie.

I think it will be someone like the Aaron Glenn type. Has played at or coached at aTm, has ties to the NFL somehow. Most importantly has an idea of what the Wrecking Crew and Junction Boys mean in the lore of aTm. Sometimes I get the feeling Sumlin had no idea what those were before he got there.

A&M is a down grade

I love how aggies act like they are a tier one or tier two program

They struggled in the Big 12 and now the same in the SEC.

Arkansas pisses on oSu, Ole Miss, and aTm. Learn your history about Southwest/Southeast football.

It is amazing the ignorance of people talking SWC/Big 8 football at times.

Sumlin was a Slocum assistant and had plenty of Texas ties which is what you said

The person you're describing with a succesful coaching history doesn't really exist, if they did they would be our head coach. If we hire someone like Dennis Allen absolutely nobody will show up.

I've seen a bunch of stuff about A&M trying to scoop Mullen. I'll concede Aggy is a better job, but not enough to leave the situation Mullen is in IMO. Florida/ND, now that is another story.

Arky hasn't done shite the last 20 years, while others have elevated.

I thought he was a GA not an assistant for aTm. If I am wrong so be it.

aTm has not elevated they have stayed the same. oSu has elevated though, but they could not go any farther down after Simmons.

Before he went to OU? I still think it is going to be Defense somehow and that is where it gets tricky.

I am glad I am not pulling that trigger on the hire. Because whomever it is, will be expected to win yesterday and the pressure will be turned up.

Traditionally those three suck.

what? did you seriously just say that A&M sucks historically when compared to OSU? what?

jesus christ, a&m and arky both have a better history than most of college football. thats not saying that they are the best, but the idea that they "traditionally suck" is just totally incorrect

Unless we pull someone big which is unlikely I think it will be a defensive coach as well. I don't think having ties to A&M or even the state of TX will be that important

You know who would be very interesting pick would be Vrabel.

Been in NFL as DC, been in college at tOSU, played for Bill. He has enough connections where he can recruit nationally and in the state.

I think nobody has put him high enough that they're ready to battle Pickens and OSU for him yet. Often discussed, never really pursued, IMO. Similar to Mullen.

But like Mullen, with so many openings, I think guys who have performed consistently well at pretty high levels, if not competing for championships, may get more appealing in the next couple of years

well he just signed a 5 year extension but his buyout is only 3 million the first year and reduces by 1 million every year. His contract is pretty awesome actually LINK / Has a bunch of nice perks and incentives as well as giving him an easy out if he wants to coach somewhere else. 22.5 over 5 with incentives as much as 1.25 million if he won a national title ain't bad for the expectations at OSU

Recruiting rankings mean nothing in this. I mean LSU should be top 5 every year then and not had to fire a HC week 2 and have their fans willing to burn down the current HC home.
