Dude has made Navy into a legit program over a long period of time. I know he really really loves the kids at Navy and the program because he even turned down BYU last year.

But why does no major program ever come calling for him. He's done more with less than a basically anybody in the country for almost a decade. Is it that nobody wants to run a triple option anymore?

Not many major programs want a triple option offense.

Fwiw navy was just as good or better when Johnson was there. P5 teams probably aren't interested in the triple option.

AA would look good running triple option.

He's found his niche.

A service school is probably the best fit for the triple option.

I'd laugh at any team trying to run the triple option in the SEC.

Way too much front 7 talent and speed for it to work.

It would be interesting to see with elite talent in this age, but no school who has that would deploy that offense or attract talent with it.

Smoked Mississippi State's arse in the Orange Bowl recently.

They did but they haven't found much success like that year consistently. There are more modernized offenses that share the same core stuff with the tripple option that I feel can be deployed. EX: Gus Malzahn basically admits to being a wing T option team out of the gun

That's not really the issue if the guys running it are fast and talented as well. That GT team sliced and diced a bunch of fast and talented front 7's (including an SEC one) a few years ago. The bigger issue is consistently attracting the right players to run it.

It's a MFer even for good defenses because it is so unusual if it is run well. Navy has given otherwise talented front sevens fits over the years under both Johnson and Niumatalolo. Ohio State, one of Spurrier's good USC teams, several ND teams. It's not just a matter of speed and talent.

He only runs the triple option because he's at a service academy. He's a defensive coach and it was talked about during the byu courtship last year that if he took the job he wouldn't bring the option.

Of course he was going to use the option if he went to BYU. He's not going to hire some random OC that he's never worked with because BYU think the option is boring or whatever silliness. And if they did that's why he didn't go there
