Well, think about this logically. If Bumgarner or Posey don't play after this year, there's probably a 99% chance they've been incapacitated so they're no longer able to play the game. I could also point to somebody like Kirby Puckett. If he was forced to retire due to the retina issues in 1992 instead of 1995, the Hall of Fame would have waived the ten year eligibility rule for him as well.

Yadier Molina has two World Series rings and eight Gold Gloves. Or what about Jorge Posada? He has four World Series rings and five Silver Slugger awards. Do you think both of those guys are locks as well?

neither were ever the best player in the league, though Molina has widely been considered one of the best defensive catchers ever. but yes I do think both should be HOF'ers

Okay, that's fair enough. I respect that opinion. To me, I don't think either has done enough to be considered HOFers.

Wut? The highest the Indians paid Carmona was $6.3 million. The only player the Indians re-signed over that time period for a significant amount of money was Travis Hafner and Hafner's contract was only for 4 years, $57 million. Of course what the Indians should have done was re-sign Sabathia and simply let him opt out after the 2011 season.

What? In 08 the Indians had a choice resign Sabathia or save for Carmona. They were best 1-2 in MLB at the time. The Indians decided on Carmona traded Sabathia to Milwaukee.

Pedroia would be damn close. RotY, MVP, 2x World Series Champ, 4x gold glover, and a silver slugger award and a long enough career.

That still doesn't make sense because the Indians only signed Carmona to a 4 year, $15 million contract. C.C. would have made more than that in one year not to mention the extra $100+ million that it would have cost to sign him to a long-term contract.

Part of the reason was Carmona had more reasonable demands and if I remember correctly he was listed as younger. Yeah he turned out the be older but at the time he was considered younger.

It makes plenty of sense. They decided on Carmona as their Ace letting Sabathia go. Carmona then hurt his elbow before that resigning. Then the age/identity issue came up.

He's going to meet all of the standards to be a HOFer but I don't think he's there quite yet. The average WAR for HOF 2B is 69.3 WAR. Now, I don't think Pedroia has to get to 70 WAR to be considered a HOFer. Alomar and Biggio both fell short of that mark. However, he needs to get to at least 60 WAR. Cano and Utley are there already. Pedroia's at 50 WAR right now. He needs two more 5 WAR seasons or three more 3.5 WAR seasons while being at least a replacement level player when he's in his late 30s. I would say the same for Ian Kinsler as well who's another great 2B from this era.

The usual suspects- Ichiro, Ortiz, Cabrerra, Pujols, Mauer, and Beltre are about locks.
Guys like Verlander, King Felix, Beltran, and Greinke can reach it, if they maintain a little more non-sub par play.

I'll get some grief for this, but I subscribe to the notion that the words "hall of famer" immediately come to mind when you say the player's name, due to their notoriety as one of the best in the game for long portions of their career. The numbers may bear it out, but I don't feel that when I think about Adrian Beltre.
