I think you're focusing too much on titles.
i guess, but i feel like thats what ultimately seperates a franchise. thats obviously not the end all be all but if you have the leagues 4th most titles, i will probably put you in a higher place than a consistently good franchise who cant get over the hump like the suns or the jazz

Miami is a lot like UCONN. It's hard to rank them historically because they have the titles but they don't have a long history.

This thread really illustrates how top heavy the NBA is, that a franchise with such an uninspiring history could be debated for being a top 5 all time in its sport

Easily a better franchise than the Warriors. It isn't even close right now. Better win percentage, 18/28 winning seasons, more titles and final appearances since their inception than the Warriors, not to mention they were conceived when the NBA was really taking off. It's not debatable between them and the Warriors. If someone bet you who would win more titles or be more relevant in the next 30-50 years, you'd be a fool to pick the Warriors over the Heat. Miami, Detroit, and maybe Knicks, it becomes debatable.

Eta: WestCoastAG I just realized your metrics in the op are very flawed since they've been around far longer than many other franchises.

and? you think the sixers would be 3rd in wins and playoff apperances if they werent an original franchise? the knicks are 4th in wins and 6th in playoff appearances, you think theyd have that many if they werent an original franchise? both are franchises you say are absolutely better than the warriors while laughing at their winning percentage when the sixers are 11th and the knicks are 17th in winning percentage

.

A better question is where do they rank all time for an individual season?

Depends on the playoff run, but a good one puts them in the upper echelon imo
ummmmmm ya think?

Miami since their inception has been, imo. Great owner, president.

Made runs, not all successful, with several great players.

Zo Mashburn Hardaway squad(and lost out on prime Juwan Howard)

had an intriguing squad DWade's rookie year (Odom,Butler,Jones,Wade)

then the Shaq trade

Then Heatles

now, if Bosh could stay healthy, would a serious threat in the East and still might make it to the ECF.
