In summation, slow the frick down fanboy

Not a fan boy actually. Honestly I don't follow the NBA until playoff time. I think Curry is a great player, the best in the league right now. Notice though, I said what WILL he have to do to be considered the greatest, not that he is or will be. I love Jordan too, that is why I give about $500-$1000 a year buying his shoes that I never wear. Calm down, Nancy. Its just a discussion of a players career outlook. Geez

LeBron would have to be magically erased from the annals of basketball history.

Holy shite a lot of nostalgia...curry's current level play is a level Reggie never achieved or even capable of...he lacked the skill set.

I don't think anyone will ever be the stand alone goat ever again. MJ had almost a perfect career. I don't think anyone will do enough to clearly dethrone him. Someone maybe will have a similar career one day but even that's doubtful. LeBron has all the talent to do it but it looks like he won't get there.

Lets just say how absurd Curry is right now.

If he keeps up his attempts and %, he will be #1 in 4 years.

#1: Miller 2973
#26: Curry 1401

Curry: 10.7 attempts @ 45.6% = 402 per year

Don't really care how many titles he ends up with but at the minimum he needs to produce at the rate he has this season for, I don't know, but 8+ more years?

And even that doesn't get him there because of the difference between his D and MJ's.

So basically sustain the offensive production for 8 ish more years AND become elite on defense.

And to answer the question. If we get like 5 more years of this level of play and the Warriors rattle off like 6 straight titles with him winning finals mvps, I think it would be up for debate

Hawkins was basically a 50/40/90 guy in the NBA with his peak seasons over 20ppg.

Except for the fact that he was never a 50/40/90 player.

ye of little imagination.

someone Porzinga sized, with Curry range, Bill Russell defense, all time great free throw shooting, Cousy deft passing, Moses Malone rebounding and Russell shot blocking will come along.

pretty much this. nobody will ever supplant Jordan. Part of what makes Jordan the GOAT is his status as a pop culture icon, him being the most marketable athlete in history, the Air Jordan shoes, etc.

Not sure about that, but he's nowhere near MJ's level of defense. MJ was just about the best defensive player in the league basically.

GOAT talk should be limited to how well they perform on the court, who cares what kind of shoes they wear, that has nothing to do with how good of a player they are.

it's absolutely part of the mythology of michael jordan. he is the best basketball player that has ever lived, but he is by far the most marketable, famous and beloved american athlete in history, which just widens the gap between him and the next tier of guys.

Sure it does, and that also has nothing to do with how good of basketball player he was on the court.

No, none of the marketability stuff makes him a better basketball player than anyone else.

He's never been all-defensive NBA...where they select 4 guards a year to the 1st and 2nd teams. I'm not saying he's not good, but he's never been recognized for it, which is often what really matters

It should, but sometimes players can transcend beyond the sport. Nike makes over a billion dollars a year from the sell of Jordans and the dude hasn't played in over a decade. That shite right there is fricking boss
