From the same period...the George Allen/Chuck Knox L.A. Rams belong on that list.

St Louis Blues are up there in playoff futility.

48 seasons.
39 playoff apearences
25 straight playoff apearences at one point.

No Stanley cups.

Talk about a snake bitten franchise when they make the playoffs.

You're right, they certainly did. Five divisional titles in a row, I think.

Buffalo losing 4 straight SB's, and then Minnesota's futility in 4.

FSU really has 900 appearances in the WCS?

Yeah, they've really been playing baseball at FSU since 1115 AD.

Well, that is a little bit padded by the NHL's system. The first few season after expansion the Original Six were the Eastern Division and the expansion teams were the West, and four of the teams in each division made the playoffs. For a chunk of the 1980s, there were 21 teams and 6 made the playoffs--in every division except the Patrick you had to finish last to miss the postseason.

Washington Capitals. In the history of the NHL, there have only been 28 teams that have blown a 3-1 series lead in a playoff series. The Capitals have blown FIVE of those 3-1 leads. Typically, a team with a 3-1 lead wins 90% of the time. The Capitals record with a 3-1 series lead is 6-5. Essentially, there's a 50% chance they'll blow a 3-l lead in the playoffs when the typical average is around 10%. They're easily the biggest gutless chokers in the history of sports.

The biggest moment in Aggie history is getting John Chavis. You actually have to play in big games to be clutch or not.

How about the A's with Canseco/McGwire/Eckersley/Henderson/Stewart? Everyone knew they were the best, 3 straight World Series, but only 1 title. They let a gimp beat them.

This one

21 appearances, only 3 title games and only into the semis 5 times.

Never had a losing season, made 37 straight tourneys, 7 straight supers, 10 time national seed, 5 time #1 team going into the postseason.

The Minnesota Vikings have the ninth highest winning percentage of any NFL team and are tied with the Bills for being 0-4 in the Super Bowl. And that's not counting all the NFC Championship collapses.

Here's Bill Simmons talking about tortured teams:

I'm definitely biased as a Vikings fan, but I don't think there is a team in sports that does such a great job of giving hope and then ruining it in the playoffs.

the Vikings lost in the '87 NFC title against the Redskins too. But I guess they were playing with house money that year as they got hot in the playoffs. They were down knocking on the door late in the game but I think Darrell Green broke up a pass after the guy he was covering ran his route to tight near another Vikings player. Sort of caused a traffic jam and Green took advantage.

lol at the strike shortened season that year.

Easily the Cleveland Browns it goes back even to a game in 1981 where they totally fricked it up and should have kicked a fg down by two but Wipe threw a pick and the Raiders won.

Buffalo Bills (lost 4 straight Super Bowls)

the first loss was one of the best Super Bowls I've ever seen. The Giants were lucky that Hostetler didn't fumble in the endzone when Bruce Smith hit him in the endzone for the safety.

Atlanta Braves (14 straight division championships, one World Series title)

the NLCS the Braves had with the Pirates in 1992 was a true classic. Sure, they came up short against Toronto in the WS but I thought Doug Drabek had the Braves in Game 7.

Francisco Cabrera knocked the crap out of the ball (foul) just before he hit the game winning runs in.

the Braves were about tapped out on pinch hitters cause they had used Jeff Treadway and Brian Hunter earlier on the game.

the Pirates have a solid history but that was a true meltdown if I've ever seen one.
