Go Sharks. Maybe this will be the year we break through since no one expects anything from them.

Three games I'll be paying attention to:

1) Rangers - Blues: Three questions -

Is Duclair good enough for an 11th game and stay in the show?

How does NY look without Stepan?

Will Hagelin's gorgeous flow be enough to distract the Blues?

What does the chemistry in St Louis look like with the addition of Stasny?

Some sweet shirts Probably going to get a ZUC shirt, C, and the flow like hags shirt.

2) Senators at Nashville

Who gets the start on the first line with Ribeiro and Neal - Bourque or #princefilip?

Is Pekka back to 100%?

Was their hidden talent that nobody saw with Trotz defense-first system?

Will Neal's points drop off by 25%, 50%, or 75% without Malkin?

At this point, how does the Legwand for Ironhook trade look?

Some cool Nashville tshirts about a 200% chance I get the "chicks dig a big pekka" t-shirt.

3) Blackhawks / Stars

I hope they all lose heart and they both lose in a -1 to -1 tie, with Kaner staying as awesome as usual.

Did Brad Richards ditch his invisibility suit he wore in NY?

Is Jason Spezza over the hill?

How will Dallas' chemistry work out with the all of the off season roster changes? Will they look like the NY Mets of the early 90's with an all-star roster from 2 years ago or will they look like the team everybody thinks they are right now?

I've made this the season long thread. It worked well last year, and I liked having one thread to rule them all.

Hag's flow can stop is dreamy.

Duclair is looking like a producer I hope he can stay in the show

Stepan out never looks good.

Thanks for the shirt website. I will be ordering the Swagelin and a Mac shirt.

Also getting to go to my first NHL game at the end of the month in Dallas for the Stars/Ducks game. Should be a good matchup. Played hockey when I was younger and just picked the sport back up and it's been a blast!

How are you feeling man? Upgraded D and solid coach have you fired up? Or are you worried about the the conservative offense of Trotz?

I don't see much of an adjustment period needed when at even strength. The only line that is changing is the 2nd line and 2 out of 3 of those guys played together for a bit last season (Spezza & Hemsky). Maybe those two guys take a few games to adjust to Ruff's schemes but I really don't see that needing to happen either considering their experience.

Where you might see some adjustment time is on the power play (which has been nicknamed the "Super Scary Powerplay" ). Benn, Seguin, Spezza, Hemsky and Trevor Daily will make up that unit if they decide to use it - I can see those top 4 needing a couple of games to gel together. The one preseason game that they used it scored two PP goals. But Dallas had one of the worst PP's in the league last season, so a few games of gelling together will be tolerable compared to a season of disappointment with the man advantage.

My biggest concern is obviously the D, although the D ranked in the top half of the league in the last 4-6 weeks of last season and are returning everyone. So hopefully they pick up where they left off, but Chicago isn't the team you want to start off against to test it.

And I am also concerned with Kari Lehtonen. He had a sub par playoff series against the Ducks (although he probably was warn out by then with the lack of a decent backup all season), he looked ordinary during the preseason, and he is coming off of a concussion sustained last week. He is going to be fine sooner rather than later and he is cleared to play tonight but, again, Chicago isn't the team you want to play the first game of the season with all of that piled up.

Damn I cant wait for tonight!

Maybe because we don't have as high as expectations this year, they'll actually do something!

Cautiously optimistic. Look, everything possible that could have gone wrong last year, did, and the Caps still almost made the playoffs. I also think outsiders severely underrate just how terrible of a coach Oates was. I think the standard pick for the Caps is a bubble playoff team, and I think they are a lot better than that.

Look, the team upgraded at head coach, added two blueliners to a defense that was trotting out AHL'ers last year, and will stop f'n with Holtby and give the guy with the 7th best sv% in the NHL the job. All they really lost was Grabo who was hurt for half of last year. And supposedly Laich is healthy and Kuznetsov finally arrives from Russia. I don't see how this team didn't vastly improve.

Look, I think the Orpik deal is terrible and he's wildly overpaid for way too long of a term. But does he make the Caps better THIS YEAR? Absolutely. Orpik is about a billion times better than Erskine or Kundratek (to be fair, he's a billion times better simply by virtue of NOT BEING AN AHL PLAYER). Niskanen is a huge upgrade as well.

It seems that the Caps actually built a roster to the style of play instead of just playing lip service to defense and call not playing offense a form of defense.

I just kind of have a bad feeling that this is the year the Red Wings' playoff streak ends. We barely squeaked in last year and even then Boston ran a train on us.

Really gonna watch as much hockey as I can this season. Pretty excited about it. I've liked Patrick Kane ever since the 2010 Olympics so I guess I'm a bandwagon Blackhawks fan. I'm sure that won't fly with some posters around here. Plus, if Pierre Thomas is a Blackhawks fan, then so am I.

Too many injuries for the Red Wings last season. Both Zetterberg and Datsyuk missed damn near half of the season. They obviously have to stay healthy!

I know Datsyuk is back practicing again, so he should be back soon.
