GC teams would just completely disregard sprinters even more than they do already.

Sky, Movistar, Astana don't care About them as it is.

Rest day is Monday.

They are racing on Tuesday. Looks like a pretty flat stage.

That does not change the stage I proposed. The splitting of teams I mentioned was in case a team had a sprinter or a leader that was a sprinter.

And after reading some posts in here...how does one win this thing?

I figured it was the guy who has the yellow jersey last?

And why are these analysts talking about a racer being too aggressive with the leader guy and "going after him?"

Said there are unwritten rules.

This shite is so confusing.

What's a GC?

And what's team Sky? Why are there teams?

What's a Peloton?

Yes. Least time.

didn't watch today, but on the previous stage before rest day Aru (second) attacked (accelerated) Froome when Froome had a mechanical issue. Some take issue with that (unwritten rules), some say it's part of the game. That might be what they're referring to, unless there's something I missed today but I highly doubt Aru would try anything on a stage like today's.

Yeah that's what they were talking about.

What's wrong with accelerating when the guy ahead of you has an issue?

And what does "try something" mean?

I truly have no clue what goes on in a bike race. I feel like it should be the most straight forward event...ever

Start here, be the first to reach there.

GC is general classification. Which is pretty much the main race. Within the race, there are other races green jersey: there's a point system for high finishers of each race, and intermediate sprints also during the stage where pints can be won. the guy that has the most points takes that jersey. There are specialists just for this

Polka dots jersey: same concept as above except the points are obtained at the top of categorized climbs.

That's just a term used for the whole group of cyclists. Or the main group, once peine start breaking away.

Team Sky is team Sky lol. And teams are very important. A contender needs a solid cast around him.

It's just an "unwritten rule" some people have issue with. The argument is, beat your man straight up.

He's only a few a seconds behind. He needs to pick his spot when to attack Froome, otherwise he may "blow his wad" and cost himself.
The separation between the GC contenders happen on mountain stages and time trials. Stages like today are for the sprinters.

That's what a time trial is for. You're on your own on the road.

So Aru did a Contador today?

I have no issue with it, but I remember when Contador did it to Schlek people about had an aneurysm. Froome has had mechanical issues what the last 2 years? Him riding the utility bike last year (maybe year before) was comedy.

Not today, on Sunday.

Then Dan Martin told him to chill and they let Froome back in. The problem with that is they wasted a good 2 km of nasty climb that could have served some attacks.

And I agree, I have no issue with it personally.

My opinion is, the mechanical is part of the race, I am sorry something wore out or broke, but in every other form of locomotion sport they do not care if you breakdown somehow, it is part of the event.

IE they do not care if your engine blew in Auto racing, if you used wrong wax in skiing, luge, bobsled, or if the spikes tear in a 100, they do not wait. It is your job to catch them with what you have.

ETA:

I would love to hear Roll and Vande Velde's real feelings about attacking in a Mechanical. Sherwood and Liggett's are well known as they are pansies.

They both said they were fine with it. And Bob brought up a good point....no one waited for Dan Martin when Richie Porte caught him on his crash.

I would love to see if someone can isolate Froome in the Alps now that Thomas is out, and if Movistar is not too busy being pansies they can do it. But Froome wont chase Quintana now. But if Contador, Quintana, and Aru go early and not wait for anyone, my gosh that could be amazing.

I also wished one of those 3 guys could give us an Armstrong Ulrich moment. Look into the eyes of Froome and say nope I am out of here and just leave him on an ascent.

Would have been really really interesting if Valverde didn't crash in stage 1. With him gone, I'm not sure how good the rest of Movistar is.

funny you bring him up, I was just looking him up the other day to see what he's up to. Those t-mobile us postal battles.
