Looks like Sagan is appealing the decision and looking for reinstatement
Posted on 7/6/17 at 11:09 am to castorinho
How can he be reinstated? Would it go down as WD instead of ejection?

Yeah per the existing rules, he can't. It would have been unprecedented.
They rejected the appeal already anyway.

Yeah it does seem unusually early for the top 10 to be established already. Usually it seems that irrelevant guys with their breakaways in the early stages hold a decent gap, and it's not til they are really into the mountain stages that the real top guys dominate the standings. I guess Sky just had a firm grip on race control early on.

Just finished watching Stage 6 on DVR. Not sure if I'm ahead of this thread - so no spoilers.
Almost a third of the way in.
Anybody with cycling savvy want to start handicapping the overall category?
Froome seems to be the favorite. Aru is a climber I think. Quintana? Contador?
Any names outside the Top 10 at this point that we should be keeping an eye on?

The order is set already because of time bonuses for wins, as a result BMC thought Porte could win stage 5 so didn't give the break away a chance and the top dogs came out.
Id say the top 4 based on stage 5 is looking like Froome, Porte, Aru, Dan Martin.
But others to watch out for will be Simon Yates vs Louis Meijtes for the White jersey(both should top 10), Contador, Quintana, Fugslang(altho he got dropped quite early).
I also like Rigoberto Uran to get in the top 10 assuming he fully focuses on GC

Aru is the only one that has the explosiveness to put Froome on the ropes. Not sure he can do that because the Sky train is so strong. If he is able to get some time, he will need a ~1m going into the last TT. Not sure all that will happen.
This is the tour and one mishap can change the whole complexion of the race.

Tomorrow and Sunday should be good, I'd love it if Orica or Astana blow the race up on the downhill taking advantage of their two headed attacks.
But it will probably be left to the last mountain

Apparently Kittel got the win by 6mm
Over 210km to lose by 6mm

This weekend should be good. Wish that the Sunday stage parked on top of the last climb, but it's a hard day nevertheless...probably the hardest of the tour considering the roads. Can't wait to see who is wearing long sleeves on Tuesday?

I'm hoping Contador has a magical ride in the Pyrenees

It wouldn't disappoint me if AC could find championship form and compete with the cream. I honestly don't think he has it in him with his recent results. He's at a good weight but he isn't what he once was and he's going to get shelled this weekend I fear. I'm hoping he attacks and goes up the road on the whole lot!
ETA: BB could help in the south.

Appreciate the insight.
How does it work when a team has two legit GC contenders? (E.g., currently Froome/Thomas, Aru/Martin).
Barring accident or some other catastrophe what are the rules/etiquette for Thomas and Martin. Does the team vote/decide to set them free if they think they put on the yellow jersey?
Are mountain stages, which seem to demand less teamwork, more of a free-for-all where a competitive rider can take a shot at a teammate?

quote:there's an official leader before the race, and when you have two legit guys there's still a clear leader until he either cracks in a mountain stage or his teammate goes rogue.

quote:oh teamwork is VERY MUCH important on a mountain stage. This is how Froome has been dominating. If a contender attacks, the sky train just reels him back in. Need as many teammates as possible down the stretch. Getting isolated is no bueno

Quintana dropped again today.
About to star the final descent... 17 miles or so.
