Can't believe Dan Martin got up and still finished in the top 10 there.

Fingers crossed for Richie Porte

Also backed Uran to finish top 10 in the GC this morning. So not bad there either!

Garaint Thomas (#2 overall coming in & Froome's chief assistant) is out

Richie Porte is out (that was a horrific crash)

they said today would be a real tough stage... they weren't lying

That was impressive. Those guys are tough as hell.

Bob Roll said it's like jumping out of your car when it's going 45, and you are in your pajamas wearing a styrofoam hat.

One of the most brutal days I've ever seen in the Tour.
2nd place (Thomas) done in by a crash.
4th place (Martn) taken out by Porte and losing over a minute.
5th place (Porte) done in by some brutal road rash.
6th place (Yates) dropped and losing over a minute.
8th place (Contador) dropped out of contention.
9th place (Quintana) dropped and losing over a minute.

Had to be the biggest reshuffling of the top 10 that I can recall watching. Sucks to see major contenders taken out by crashes, but one of the most exciting stages I've ever seen. These days are the reason you watch the Tour.

Sucks that Cav is out. Sucks that Sagan is out. Sucks that Porte is out. Sucks that Dan Martin went down.

But it's every year. We never really get a good race in all categories.

He and Aru touched on a downhill, went off the road as he went on the inside of a corner, fell skidded along the whole road and took out Dan Martin both hit the rock face hard.

Porte broke his collarbone and hip, and et somehow they are saying he is just facing 4-6 weeks off the bike.

Insane

And he came off again about 1 minute later when it turned out his front brake didn't work

And if he would have gone left-that's a cliff. Pick your poison there.

Shame that a lot of good names are gone and they're just through the first week.

Any Americans in the mix this year?

I was worried Porte had a neck or back injury. Brutal crash.

Froome looked unstoppable today. Turned back multiple challenges near the top of the last hill and then wrecked half of his challengers by attacking himself.

Too bad for Martin. But for that crash he would probably have finished in the Yellow Jersey group at the end.

Great day of racing overall.

Only 3. All on the same team.

Top American is Andrew Talansky. 31st overall.

Another America racer Taylor Phinney. Bill Walton's long lost son....

Taylor Phinney interview

"...Live in the moment man.... "

Just a great sports interview no matter what you think about cycling....

2 of the 3 already spent a day in the polka dots as King of the Mountain leader

ETA: Taylor Phinney had it after stage 2, Nathan Brown had it after stages 3 & 4

today was stage 9... see the OP's out on a 4 day break

I know not a opinion held by many, but I wished the Team Time Trials would come back. I also wished they would make a team trial up like Ventoux or Alp d'Huez. You get a climb up, a descent, then a climb back up the side you just came down to end it. It would cause hell on the GC and make your teams plan accordingly. Do you go for the win on the ITT, TTT, or let it play out whole tour and hope your guy has the team around him to get 5 guys within a certain point.

You can make 2 teams out of your 9 man, 3 guys and your sprinter and 4 guys and your Leader or GC guy if a sprinter. So your Sprinter can not get DQ'ed and your GC guy has some help up the mountain to pace. A team built like Movistar would crush that type of stage if ever done I believe.
