Luck has looked like an NFL qb for a while now. He's "polished."

I can honestly say I was wrong about Cam. I hate that attention whore, but he has really played way better than anyone thought.

Luck is a good player. I just don't know if he can live up to the hype. frick he could be the next John Elway and not live up to all of this hype.

Maybe the coaching he received from Harbaugh before he left?

I think it is his football pedigree and his closeness to football 'insiders' that is really driving the hype. Definitely a good QB but he will have to live up to Manning/Elway type hype. Gonna be tough for the kid.

Got a head start in NFL development.

Has nothing to do with his offense, more to do with who his coach was last year and the year before.

I can't come up with anything. I thought Newton would be good, but not this good so soon. I just laugh when I hear Mcshay say "I've been evaluating college football players since 1999" (yeah you're a seasoned vet) "and I am going to give Andrew Luck a higher grade than I have ever given any player" (without saying why)

other than the overrated "he plays in a pro offense" response, honestly what reasoning is there that Luck is a better prospect than cam?

That's not exactly an overrated philosophy.

Andrew Luck is the closest thing we have seen to a perfect prospect. Name his weakness.

He has tremendous accuracy. Pro style system. Smart game manager. Strong arm. Has mobility. NFL scouts and GMs masturbate to him on the reg.

what else do you need to know?

-he has prototypical size
-he has been coached by a great coach in a pro style offense
-he is smart
-he can make all the throws
-he is accurate
-he is mobile in the pocket & outside the pocket
-he is a leader
- he has won with inferior talent around him in a BCS conference
-he has a pro pedigree

what was cam's weakness...

big, fast, smart (i hate him, but it's true), huge arm, 65% completion percentage in college, 60 in the pros, what was his weakness?

Pro style system

that's not an attribute of Luck, that's just a fricking system he played in

The problem with this thread is that you have already seen Cam in the NFL and that is clouding your judgment.

Newton's biggest downside was his 1 year playing football, playing in an offense that usually calls for a harder transition into the NFL. He took a lot of snaps in the shotgun. He ran a lot of read option. You just don't see that in the NFL.

Newton has done a lot better than expected, but he still has a ways to go before he becomes a elite NFL passer.

Did you watch Auburn's offense last year? He literally came out of poor junior college and had one year in that funky college offense which had him making one read and then taking off a lot and falling forward.

Luck has been nurtured in this Pro-Style system with great coaching for 3 years and has the pedigree and grooming around him that Elway had.

To make this simple:

Luck is Winthorpe
Newton is Billy Ray Valentine

Now, they both might end up on a fancy yacht together fighting over a Lombardi Trophy but it's easy to understand why one would be viewed by the establishment as a better prospect.
