They took all the gold in personal possession from all the countries where soccer is popular, melted it down and made a trophy with it

You're not gonna die if you admit your favorite sporting event has a shitty trophy bro

Seriously there's only one trophy worth still giving out and that's the Stanley Cup because every player on the team gets to own it for a day and take it to the bars and pick-up a harem of chicks and get laid.

I like how you said that when they’re all millionaire professional athletes who shouldn’t need the help regardless

I’ve watched quite a few World Cup games this year, and I must say, it’s refreshing to watch a sport where it’s not dominated by commercial breaks.

Football is my favorite sport, but god damn they are trying to ruin it by dragging it on for 4 hours.

Eh, I think it's a nice trophy. My only complaint is that it's not, you know, a cup.

trophies are right up there with uniforms for the lamest thing that for some reason alleged "sports fans" seem to care about

Never forget about 10/15 years ago when they changed the rules to add more running clock to "speed up the game."

The TV time stayed the same but the fans lost about 10 plays of football I believe.

That's the best part of soccer. Plus the fact that they essentially play year round when you factor in league season, club tournaments and international play.

Forgive us, we are simple american football fans. We dont have the sophistication to appreciate the beauty of football matches that end in nil-nil draws

I've always had a soft spot for the Bowl Alliance (95-97 version of the BCS) trophy.

So much this, it was nice to watch the US games and be done in under 2 hours as opposed to CBS games that last 3-4 hours, plus the only commercials come during halftime. People on this board joke about soccer being boring but baseball is far more slower paced

As far as trophies go there is Lord Stanley's Cup and then there is everything else.

I would say that the NHL trophies are at the top of the list in general.

In College Football, the NCAA started overtime in 1996 which ended the chances of any game ending 0–0. However, in 2014 Wake Forest and Virginia Tech ended in a 0–0 after 4 quarters (Wake Forest would win 6–3 in OT). The last regular season 0–0 tie was in 1983 between Oregon and Oregon State.

Auburn/Miss State 3-2. One of the lowest scoring major football games, had a higher score than 90% of all soccer games

Even the MLS and Open Cups are bigger than that.

Americans would literally LOVE rugby if they would just embrace it.

It's a violent full-contact sport with a running clock.

Same for soccer

With that said, Lord Stanley is the pinnacle of sports trophies. Wish we had a team in Houton, wouldn't even care if they sucked since Texans and Rockets do as well.
